Well just look who has an Op-Ed piece in the Washington Times...Comprehensive he says!

Immigration enforcement

President Bush has put forward a comprehensive vision for immigration reform that will secure our borders, strengthen interior enforcement and create a temporary worker program that is not amnesty but will provide a legal, regulated path for those seeking work in the United States.

A key part of this strategy is effective worksite enforcement. Simply put, we need to give employers better tools to verify the legal status of their employees. Under the president's plan, we will provide new tools — including a tamper-proof identification card for legal foreign workers and an expanded electronic verification system that will allow employers to quickly and accurately confirm work eligibility.

Just yesterday someone told Kitty Pilgrim (filling in for Lou Dobbs) that they want to give the responsibility of deciding who should be given leagal status to the private sector -- the very people who are employing illegals would decide who stays, sort of putting the rooster in charge of the hen house.

Why put together a "comprehensive plan" when we have existing laws that could be followed and they could become legal citizens the way every other immigrant is required to do. If workers are required, there are worker visas we issue to all foreigners doing such work - these are no exception. If they overstay their visa, against our laws, they must be prosecuted (not just deported). You'd think the laws already on the books were a joke the way they are treated. Most assuredly THEY ARE NOT A JOKE and to those here illegally (working or not) - most American citizens are definitely not laughing.
