Suit yourself. Take it up with the USMC press office and give them a hard time about this essentially irrelevant fifty-year-old error, don't bother me with your nit-picking.
And while you're at it, quit carping on Memorial Day of all days and stick to the point -- the sublime bravery of the men like my father in law who fought at Iwo.
The URL on the photo you posted doesn't link to HQMC so I'm not going to give the Marines in DC a hard time because the caption you claim comes from the Marine Corps most likely did not. What you characterize as irrelevant is in fact highly relevant. I've witnessed Marines fail at being meritoriously promoted because they have made mistakes in front of promotion boards that you would most likely consider trivial. Attention to detail is a hallmark of the Corps and the Marines who serve her. Your ignorance of that fact is relevant.
fifty-year-old error
That would be sixty one years.
And while you're at it, quit carping on Memorial Day of all days and stick to the point -- the sublime bravery of the men like my father in law who fought at Iwo.
If your father is still alive ask him if a rifle is a gun, sweetheart.
