I like Allen, but he needs to drop the down-home schtick and stop the chewing tobacco. Virginians have responded positively to Gov. and Sen. Allen's folksy style thus far. A war-time President Allen today must to fill the gravitas shoes and stare down maniacs with nuclear weapons. Not sure 'folksy' will cut it on the world stage myself.

Warner responded to my letters were mostly blather. I called and asked his staffer to ask him NOT to use the words "undocumented worker" in such responses..

Maybye republicans should return the favor and interfere with the democrat primary this time around. I have no doubt allen would beat either candidate, but itd be nice to stick it to dems after they interfered with republican primaries from time to time.

I already sent Warner a letter that I won't support his reelection and will actively work against him should he decide to run again. I called his vote reprehensible.

When I lived in Virginia, I would sometimes write to that clown and was bewildered by what I got back.
That has been my experience too. Even when I write criticizing his stance, I receive a letter thanking me for my support!

There is no split among Americans. You are right. This issue unites Conservatives and Liberals. Even the craziest Liberals I know get enraged when the topic of Amnesty comes up.

The liberal democrats cross over in the primary election to vote for Warner, thus ensuring his re-election to the senate. Not really. I don't remember John Warner in a primary/convention battle since the first round in 1978 when he lost to Dick Obenshain. Obenshain died in a plane crash that summer and the party gave the nomination to Warner.
Warner has also only had one serious challenge in the general election, back when Mark Warner challenged him in 1996.

I don't remember John Warner in a primary/convention battle since the first round in 1978 when he lost to Dick Obenshain. Didn't former Reagan OMB Director Jim Miller challenge Warner after he foiled both Oliver North's and Mike Farris' campaigns? I seem to remember working on Jim Miller's campaign but it's a little foggy.

Senator John Warner is a Republican. Mark Warner, governor, is a Democrat.
To: Ligeia
Yes, you're correct. Miller lost the convention to North in 1994 and then challenged Warner in 1996.

yes, but if a republican votes along with the democrats they are labeled as "moderate"
To: skandalon
Warner doesn't want to alienate his MS-13 constituency.
