For many people, all arguments are situational. This isn't just confined to leftists. For example, when a guy starts with the fire department, he hates the rank structure, and gets upset that Chiefs do whatever they want. When he makes Chief, he wishes the firefighters would just STFU and do what they're told.
The multiculturalists insisted on acceptance of all cultures as being equal in value as a tactical strategy when Christianity dominated culture. Now, they have no problem suppressing viewpoints with which they don't agree.
