Retroviruses are very fragile and would be instantly destroyed in the digestive tract. Blood to blood contact (and large amounts of it over a prolonged period) is generally necessary.

You two seem to have something interesting to offer. I have a question and would like your respective inputs.

Now, I believe the difference between HIV and AIDs, is that HIV is the disease without any symptoms which can eventually develop into AIDs. Those with HIV are asymptomatic.

Perhaps these chimps that have the virus HIV are resistant to it developing into AIDS? What do you think?

That's why it's the butchering rather than the eating. Rabbits also carry some diseases that are blood borne. (Tularemia? Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever? I'm not sure.)
