CANNES, France (Reuters) - The Cannes film festival reached its halfway point on Monday, although bleary-eyed journalists and PR teams seemed to wish it was closer to the end.

Following are some snippets from on and around the Croisette, Cannes' palm-lined waterfront.

AL GORE "CARBON NEUTRAL"

A representative affiliated with "An Inconvenient Truth", a film about global warming involving former U.S. Vice President Al Gore, has stressed that the movie and Gore's tour to promote it are "carbon neutral".

Last week, Gore and his team were seen driving the 500 metres or so from a hotel to the Cannes festival headquarters in several cars. The representative said that arriving at events like photocalls and news conferences in cars was normal practice in Cannes. And Gore walked the shorter distance from another hotel to the festival for the movie's screening.

INDIVIDUAL STYLE DEAD?

Cannes has been graced this year by glamorous actresses from around the world including China's Zhang Ziyi, Italy's Monica Bellucci, Halle Berry of the United States, Aishwarya Rai from India and Spain's Penelope Cruz, as well as many more lesser known performers.

But Dita von Teese, the burlesque-dancing partner of shock-rocker Marilyn Manson, complained to Reuters that too many starlets today lack individual style.

"So many people look like they are just a product of a team of stylists ... I think that's a little unfortunate and sad.

"There are so many young beautiful starlets. How great would it be if they did not always pay attention to what was the right and appropriate thing to wear? In a hundred years from now, who are we going to really remember? We will remember Madonna, people like Cher, these iconic women. But I think there's going be a lot of people who are going to be totally forgettable."

HARMONICA

During the press conference for big-budget animation movie "Over the Hedge", Bruce Willis kicked off by saying he was George Clooney. Then a reporter mistook Nick Nolte for Chuck Norris. When the journalist corrected the mistake, Nolte, who seemed to be nodding off, pulled out a harmonica and started to play.

I'll never forget when Clinton named Gore as his VP candidate. The press caught up with Gore at his Tennessee farm. He drove down his long driveway in a minivan. Then he rolled the window down just a bit so as not to let out the air conditioned cool air. With the engine idling and sitting in the driver's seat, he answered questions from the reporters.

Remember, this was AFTER he had written his book about the evils of the internal combustion engine. I understand today he drives (or is driven) around Nashville in a large Cadillac.
