I know it's US policy for decades, and I'd like to believe him, but I just don't see it. A majority of the American public doesn't have confidence in his handling of Iraq. He is in no position now to lead the American people into another war. This is tough talk and the status quo - heaven forbid if something happens, I don't think he has the clout to come through.

Oh cut that childish crap out. He's the President of the United States with the ability to order our military into action at a moment's notice and the Congress and public would back him 99%. I can't stand the childish whining.

We aren't talking about Iran invading Israel, this is the language of nuclear war.
The President won't need political support to do what needs to be done in that situation.

I don't think he has the clout to come through. LOL!
He's Commander in Chief of the United States military. That's pretty much all of the "clout" that is required.
As an added bonus, he doesn't have to be distracted by the latest poll numbers or his re-election campaign when making tough decisions on the defense of our allies and our homeland.
Oops, that last sentence may turn this into a "close the border" thread. ;-)

He is in no position now to lead the American people into another war. Sure he is. You can sit on your ass on the sidelines, if you prefer, however.

I think you're wrong on this. This was said now for a reason.
Expect real trouble if ships begin unsheduled deployments or get extended on current ones, or if bomber wings are moved nearby, or if troops are extended who are currently deployed or those returning are suddenly put on short notice...etc etc etc.
Oh - and many pizzas delivered to DC offices of the pliticians.
