If we ever get to the point where Tel Aviv is reduced to a crater, the world will have changed in ways we probably can't quite imagine. It will be a brand new ballgame, with new rules. And yet I am certain that if that day ever comes, one thing will remain the same: the Dems will resort to posturing and politics.
Wow you are a pessimist. In the event of a nuclear attack on Tel Aviv, those manning the nukes for Israel aren't going to be looking for a truce. They will be putting contingency plans into effect and reacting.

So your scenario is the Iranian mullahs somehow commandeer a foreign jet without the world knowing about it? Not gonna happen.
And if the world knows about it, it's not getting into Israeli air space. The Israelis are touchy about their airspace. Try again.
The Israelis don't let just anybody drive big heavily-laden trucks into their country, unlike some countries I know. :)

I agree with you, but does anyone have a good feel of how the Russians or Chinese would really react if action was taken against Iran? In other words, they may have there calculation of "backing" Iran calibrated to a certain tolerance. For example, they might say, we'll go to the mat for you in the diplomatic arena, but once the shooting starts, they are outta there. I don't have a sense of just how strong the Russian or Chinese commitments really are. After all, they're primarily financial, not strategic or based on treaties and so on.
I'd hate to tell you how prepared I am. My wife is not happy with the weapons I have in the house because of the kids. But there in a gun safe so everything is secure. My inital training was courtsey of the USMC.
I think Dubya would do what he felt was right, political career be damned. And I would say that about very few politicians.
Sorry, AnnaZ. This isn't projection. 1/2 of Americanns in the wake of 911 don't even want to defend America. Hard for me to believe that they would suddenly want to avenge a crater.

And the only reason he's ever been real popular in the polls is because of the attack on 9/11. But, as the 2004 election proved, when it comes to being a Chief Executive, George W. Bush gets a majority of the vote. And elections are the most reliable polls developed so far.

I think you can distinguish the extent of support in '73, which was astounding (though some argue a bit belated, but I don't quibble), with what this statement seems to say which is more of a commitment of military support than material support.

Like LadyNavyVet pointed out, the Israelis are touchy about thier airspace. Even here, records are kept as to where planes large and small have been and where they are going. Moreover, it is unlikely that an allied or even non-aligned nation would let Iran strip a 737, load it up with a hugemongous Hiroshima-type nuclear weapon and then take off with it.
It will at some point be traceable back to its point of origin. Since no one likes getting nuked more than once, that point of origin would cease to exist.
