Nelson (D) 60% Harris (R) 33%
Rasamussen report ^

Posted on 05/22/2006 1:12:21 PM PDT by waterloofan

May 22, 2006--Senator Bill Nelson (D) from Florida has hit the 60% level of support in his bid for re-election. The latest Rasmussen Reports election poll shows Nelson leading likely GOP challenger Katherine Harris (R) by twenty-seven percentage points, 60% to 33%.

This Senate seat was once considered a a pick-up opportunity for the GOP. However, as the Harris campaign imploded earlier this year, Florida Republicans were unable to recruit a top-tier candidate to challenge Harris in the primary. As a result, Nelson is now one of the nation's safest incumbents.

Senator Nelson is viewed favorably by 66% of the state's voters and unfavorably by just 23%.

For Harris, the numbers are just 42% favorable and 50% unfavorable. This includes 41% who have a very unfavorable opinion of their former Secretary of State.

No. Voting in a jurisdiction isn't a prerequisite for having an opinion about it. That's talk better suited at DU.

"I don't live in Florida so could anyone explain to me what it is that Harris did or did not do that has everyone so against her now? It appeared to me in 2000 everyone loved her."

Her crime is that she stayed in this race due to ego after it became very obvious that she could only lose the seat that should of been won by us.

FWIW Hitman, I think in general you are correct. While I do find some polls somewhat specious, I think you can pretty effectively use them to gauge overall trends.

Where bias is clear is in the obsession with "plummeting polls" when it's related to Republicans and absolute silence when the polls rise. The reverse appears to be true, since Clinton's "no one cares about impeachment" polls were trumpeted...but we rarely heard about it when they were falling—and if we did it was generally blamed on an electorate that wasn't paying attention.

Competenca aside, Harris was thoroughly demonized by the Demonrats for doing her duty in 2000. She has not recovered.

That just tells you that the FL GOP is nothing more than a good-old boy network that wants to continue supporting hapless Rockefellers.

Agreed.

Martinez is not up for re-election, but Nelson is. After the election, Nelson will revert to his normal liberal ways.

Harris makes Nelson look very good in comparison.

I suppose you think Nelson looked very good while giving the thumbs up in front of the Fahrenheit 911 movie poster? Are you also drawn to his lifetime ACU rating vs. Harris?

Just the truth.

If you're really interested in the truth, your statement is one of the most stupid I've read on FR in a long time. Clarity may be scarce on FR however, one thing is crystal clear: You don't know squat about Nelson or Harris.

Also, if the GOP wanted to win the seat why did the governor of Florida stab her in the back?

I think that the average voter can reasonably look at Nelson and Harris and come to the conclusion that Nelson is the better choice. In fact, I am certain that is exactly what will happen on election day.

KH has no grasp that a broad consensus of Florida voters thinks she sucks. Talk about a lack of clarity...
