Very melodramatic. Unless you were referring to the Muslim riots? Christians rebut falsehoods verbally.
I grew up watching DRAGNET. Each episode was performed by actors who had learned a script, but there was an announcement that the stories we had witnessed were true, though names were changed to protect the innocent. This made DRAGNET different than an actual crime documentary, which would use real names, real locales, real interviews with real witnesses. Each episode was a fictionalized account of a real event from the LAPD crime files. The show's writers would take real police reports of actual crimes, change the names of the participants, spruce the story up for entertainment purposes, and then present it as a TV show.
So was DRAGNET a documentary, or was it fiction? Well, it was a fictional treatment of real life events. Sgt. Joe Friday was a made up character, investigating crimes of other made up characters, but which were based on actual crimes that did occur.
The problem with THE DA VINCI CODE is that Dan Brown wants us to think it's DRAGNET, and it isn't. DRAGNET was based on real crimes. THE DA VINCI CODE is based on long-discredited lies and conspiracy theories which Brown wants us to believe are true. He wants us to believe he uncovered a lot of hidden truths about Christianity in general and the Catholic Church in particular through painstaking historical research, and that his book & film are fictionalized accounts of those truths. Tom Hanks' character may be fictional, but like Sgt. Joe Friday he's investigating real crimes.
Only he isn't. And that's why Dan Brown deserves our scorn for being a liar and a huckster. He's also a colossal coward, because he wouldn't dare pull something like this with Islam as the target.
