Public sector employees lack the opportunities presented in the private sector.
The "opportunities" are a gamble. You can work 50 - 60 hours a week for 10 years and suddenly lose your job because of a merger, relocation or a new management team that wants to clean house. In the Federal government Civil Service eliminates all worries except things like base closings.
I know from my days in the Air Force that Civil Service also protects underachievers.
So what. Gubbermint jobs are better that private sector and Federal jobs are pure cream. Secretaries get paid outrageous amounts and minorities get great Fed jobs in the DC area due to affirmative action. The benefits are better than what GM workers get
"Public sector employees lack the opportunities presented in the private sector."
Wow, I missed that vote. Did someone pass a law saying that someone working on the government side couldn't take a job in the private sector. Even the ones who AREN'T supposed to use the revolving door between government regulatory work and the private sector they regulate largely ignore that law anyway.
I know a TON of ex-Coasties Marine Safety types working either for ABS, the shipping companies, big Fishing, or the like. No cooling off period or nothing.
