Hmmmm... don't have real player installed. They always stick too much other garbage in with it and it slows my PC down...

Has anybody seen or read anything on this from a source that does not require Real Player?

I agree. Real Player screwed up my old computer that, as its only other problem, was infected with Windows XP. Took me awhile to figure out that it was crap installed with Real Player that was doing the dirty deed.

Luckily, now I have a Mac so I have no such problems and can use Real Player with no concerns.

Don't know of another source but I can't tolerate RP either but check out "Real Alternative" which is a codec for Media Player that allows it to play RP content.

Do a search engine search on "real player alternative" and it should turn up lots of download sites.

Real and Quicktime and Media Player are full of call homes, and other security hazards. I use RealAlternative, QTAlternative and, Irfranview to play everything with. No frills but they do play them all AND they are FREE. Links below...

So true. There is a work-around however.

As it turns out, there are websites that have older versions of Real Player that don't come with all the garbage but can be made to play the newer RA file types. I set this up long ago and don't really remember the details but a Google search is your friend.

"Has anybody seen or read anything on this from a source that does not require Real Player?"

There is a "Change how I view this or hear this" down below and you can switch it to Window's Media Player.

Do a search for 'real alternative', it is a substitute program that allows one to play real player files.

There is also a program called quick alternative which performs the same function for quick time files.

I have used both programs in the past.

There is also a collection of various video CODECS names K-Lite Codec pack which allows for the playing of various video files. This 'pack' includes Media player classic.
