Common language is not the same as official language.
I want the latter and I want all ballots and government documents printed in nothing but.
The Senate has already made me mad enough that this posturing is not going to placate me.
The vote was sixty-three to treinta-cuatro.
Now if only they can force businesses to only offer telephone instructions in English...
Lately, I have noticed that to select Spanish, you must dial '1'. It's as if English has already been demoted to #2 or #3 in some markets.
Watch . . . we're going to go the way of the old Hapsburg Empire. Before my time comes I expect to see the folks in the McMansions sporting high heels and powdered wigs.
The Republican party are playing us for fools. They are counting on the base reelecting those who vote against amnesty while those not up for reelection sell us out.
Tackling the tough issues, I see.
Typical of those cowardly weasels. 'Common language'. Every time you think they can't possibly sink any lower, they do. This parsing of language, sleazing out of standards...is Clinton's legacy.
One bit of news you might have missed: The other day in Iceland, Clinton failed to sell out the hall in one of his appearances. It seems the world's getting sick of him.
This reminds me of the old "flag burning issue" that crops up every time our politicians want to divert attention from some new crap they're doing to us.
A sham intended to con the "red-necked hicks" in "flyover country".
There is no one in the Senate with a set of Pelotas.
What a particular scummy bunch of Traitorous Morons.
Dennis Prager is famous for saying "some ideas are so stupid, only those that are college educated could believe them". To that I would add, "a common sense idea, can only be controversial in the US Senate".
That's not the only negative

No matter what is good for the country, the ruling class will have its way.
I suppose they did this because they are not as good at nuanced equivocation in any other language?
It's BAIT. They figure if they throw this in there they might get some support from people who are very into the idea of English as a National Language. Meanwhile they continue to push the 'guest worker' shamnesty down our throats. Don't take the bait. Amnesty or legalization of any kind before enforcement just creates a new tidal wave of human refusgees.
Americans vote the U.S. Senate is our Common Disgrace.
