Call for video of Mex soccer fans chanting "Osama" when playing the US

February 15, 1998 in Los Angeles, USA - "During a game between the US and Mexico February 15, the US soccer team was not only booed and jeered throughout the entire game by Mexican fans, but were continually pelted with water, beer and in some cases solid objects like fruit from the over 60,000 fans in attendance.

One player was hit during with a water balloon during a corner kick attempt. As the team left the field at the end of both halves, beer and other debris rained down on them as they tried to run through the tunnel to their locker room. Mexico's fans in the end got the best of Uncle Sam as the Mexican national team defeated the US, 1-0.

This type of behavior is nothing new in Mexico, England, most of Europe, or any other Latin American countries. Home nations make it a matter of habit to act like idiots to visiting teams, and this incident was no different; except that it happened in Los Angeles, California!

Now, the rivalry between these two national teams has become pretty heated as the US has become a somewhat meager soccer power of sorts, but what happened in this case is completely inexcusable because it happened on America's own soil."

February 5, 2004 in Zapopan, Mexico "Last Thursday, when the U.S. played Canada in a qualifying round in Zapopan before 1,500 Mexicans, the crowd hooted "The Star-Spangled Banner," it booed U.S. goals. And it chanted "Osama! Osama! Osama" as the American players left the field with a 2-0 victory."

February 10, 2004 in Guadalajara, Mexico "In the 26th minute, the throng began chanting 'Osama! Osama!' at the Americans, but they appeared inured to such taunting and eager for a game of beautiful desperation in an attempt to reach the Olympics."

March 27, 2005 in Mexico City, Mexico "There was some booing and whistling during 'The Star-Spangled Banner' but the Americans expected worse. After the game, about 100 people gathered for a peaceful celebration near Mexico City's Angel of Independence monument. A few first tried to burn, then trampled a small American flag while chanting 'Osama! Osama!'"

What kind of football (ahem, not soccer!) match would it be if you didn't hurl abuse at the opposing fans? I think you're missing the whole point here!

I think you are missing the point here. Osama killed 3000 Americans and they are letting us know that they APPROVE of what he did, and want him to do it again!!!

So Mexicans are as bad as Hamas?

Certainly not (for obvious reasons), but most Mexicans currently residing in the U.S. (although by no means all) and Palestinians do share a few similarities:

- they both believe that the land they're currently squatting on was stolen from them and is rightfully theirs.

- they're both in the process of attempting to breed themselves into the majority.

- they're both supported by leftist/communist organizations the world over.

And if you've noticed, the more militant Mexican groups (La Raza, Aztlan, etc.) are bigtime Hamas supporters who regularly express their "solidarity" with their Palestinian comrades.

No problem. I understand. After my day today I was pretty sarcastic and didn't start out trying to explain myself very well.

Undoubtedly. But how much do you think it compares to anti-Mexicanism about some Americans?

The comparison is that Mexicans are in OUR COUNTRY ILLEGALLY, we are NOT in theirs! Have you heard of even one American rushing off to Mexico demanding to become a citizen? No, and you won't either.

More so than other tasteless sports rivalries?

Good Lord man. Osama MURDERED 3000 AMERICANS. You don't see anything wrong with them chanting their support of that???

Currently ranked fifth in the world in a sport which few people in this country take seriously. Imagine if the US ever became serious about the game. In Mexico it's a religion.

Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall" Ronald Reagan, 1987 - President Bush build that wall, NOW! 2006!

Hey, that gives me an idea. We should try to get the Communists elected to run Mexico, and then they'll have to build a wall to keep all their people from getting out :-)

Hey, I LOVE your idea! It might actually work. LOL ;o)

And for once, I'd be trying to get a communist elected, which seems like it's a pretty easy proposition.

I'm all for individual freedom and all, but if there was some way to ban soccer in the world, it would be ok with me.

"I think we are supposed to hate Mexicans"
That does seem to be the inference of this post-that because some jackasses of Mexican descent were boorish and stupid, that we are supposed to "hate on"the entire nationality.

Yes, and considering how many we have in Congress, it should be pretty easy to do. It appears that Americans do it all the time. ;o)

No, of course I do. It's tasteless and it's offensive, but I kind of see it hard to read more into it beyond saying that Mexican football fans, who are unfortunately like football fans in a lot of places, are tasteless and offensive.

"Don't know about others but it sure gets discouraging when we keep trying to judge people by their character and organizations, including our own government, keeps breaking out racial profiles."

I agree, even as I post examples of American heros who happen to be of Mexican origin.

I am just getting VERY tired of the not-so-thinnly-veiled rascism expressed by SOME freepers in this discussion, and such record keeping is useful to rebut their false accusations of hispanics not cutting the mustard and/or Mexico having no redeeming qualities.

Folks need to go to Monterray. It looks like somewhere in Ohio. Mexico City, TJ, and Juarez are not Mexico.

For the record: I am for a wall. I am also for legal immigration.

Agreed. I would add too, it's sometimes hard to talk to some people about this whole situation.

I have friends of Mexican heritage. Most are just as upset as most people are but there's an underlying concern with stereotyping and blanket accusations that has some of them on the defensive. Can't say I blame them either. It's too easy to paint every Hispanic with a broad brush that's unfair and inaccurate.

Mexico has many real problems.  That does not mean her citizens are totally to blame but they do need help in educating themselves to what party to support.  There are numerous articles on the Heritage Foundation web site that seem to be accurate and informative.

http://www.heritage.org/Research/Immigration/wm1022.cfm is one that talks about the Mexican economy.  Improving, but not nearly enough.  There are a couple by Robert Rector on this whole issue that I wish people would read before going off the deep end.
