I think a wall is going to be the ultimate outcome of this debate. But I am going to get medieval on the first FReeper who complains about spending if it happens, because that wall will cost some enormous dollars.

You might as well get the chain-mail out and start polishing it. Two complaints that go together so often are "selling us out of the border" and "big government spender".

Probably $7-$8 billion for a good fence with sensors. Much more for a big wall. Far less than the feds spend on illegals every year. The fence would probably pay for itself the first year as far as the feds go. And even if it didn't, the citizens of the border states deserve the protection of our federal government.

You've told me not to post to you and I have respected that. On this post of yours I have too. If(when)the fence goes up, you'll not hear one squeak out of me. The money used to build it would in time pay for itself on the money we, as a country, would save giving illegals welfare, free medical, housing, foodstamps and all the other freebees they think they are entitled too off my, your and every other taxpayers dime.

Build the fence! My country means more to me than money.

I'll go back to not posting to you again.

I'd be fine with the cost. Then again, I'm not opposed to paying more to hire legal citizens to do my landscaping either.

The Israeli Wall is 403 miles long. And it has been dramatically effective at stopping suicidal terrorists, who want to get at Israel in a worse way than any Mexican wants to get into the US! Putting an Israeli Wall 5 times longer than the one in Israel, along the entire US/Mexican border, will cost about $8 billion dollars.

Border Patrol says 3 million illegals crossed the border last year, and 1.1 million were intercepted and turned back. So 1.9 million made it in, many pregnant, having babies soon after getting here, etc.

What's the per capita cost of education, welfare, etc., for an illegal alien's children? Start multiplying it out, and an effective wall will save $8 billion the first year it's up. Also, an effective wall means you don't have to massively increase border patrol, which is expensive.
