The way that Rove is destroying the Democrats, is to peel away the reasonable from the wacky. Right now, the wacky have taken over that party, leaving reasonable Dems with nowhere to go but here. I dont see why we cant welcome their refugees, re-educate them, and send them back out to do our bidding?

To follow up with an example, just look at how the wacky-left is treating Joe Lieberman!

Republicans in his state will be supporting him just to keep the more wacky Dem from winning the primary. A few years back, Lieberman was their VP choice, now he's not good enough for them. I would trade ten Chaffee's for one Joe Lieberman.

Its also worth remembering that until 2000, self identified Democrats have handily outnumbered self-identified Republicans and yet Republicans only 2 Dems have been elected President since 1970.

There is a reason for that - the party that can appeal to rational indendents without giving up too much of their base or sacrificing their ideals wins almost every time, absent a serious third party candidate.

I agree with that. It's just the extremes that I could do without....but you're exactly right about peeling away the reasonable from the wacky. It's been kind of a blood letting on our side to get there, it seems.
