BUMP!
I've been here 5 years too -- as of last Sunday. So what?
While the cat's away, the mice will play. Your list of Bush's accomplishments assume a condition referred to in accounting/finance as a 'going concern'. Unfortunately, there are fundamental issues at play that raise significant questions as to the viability of that assumption.
Notice how the debate has shifted from expulsion to legalization? That's today - 2006. Now think how far the left the line will move in just another generation. In business, as in flight, there is a point of no return referred to as a 'death spiral'. The accounting/finance guys always see it first, while other employees hang-on to empty promises made by executive management.
You yourself saw this happen at USAir. At some point, an irreversible tipping point is reached, with takeover/bankruptcy as the only solution. Given unstoppable demographic trends, a socialist/center-left coalition is in store for the US, and there's nothing anyone can do about it.
So from that perspective, I agree with the essence of your post, which is to support the GOP; after all, there isn't really an alternative. The key is to live for today, figure out a way to make the most out of the situation (ie gain financially), and keep your eyes open as events accelerate that threaten your personal/financial security.
Me too.
However, I remind myself at times, that there is NO WAY that I am aware of all the issues and potential mitigating circumstances that might effect the President's decision making. I cant possibly know more than he does about ALL the issue effecting America, so even though I disagree with him, I support him all the same.
I shouldn't have to "Get over it". You're supposed to be impartial. How can you moderate a board fairly when you have clearly supported one side over the other?
You're welcome, Lucy.
Right.
Thank you.
That is not true as the democrats all hang together on issues (how I don't have a clue - but they do). And, the policies of that party are socialistic/communistic and do not seek to preserve the United States.
You may not be republican but at least look at what the parties stand for. We are in very dangerous times.
Make that 17. Shelby is a good, conservative Republican. Maybe he just punched the wrong button or something. For the life of me, I can't figure out why he voted against that amendment yesterday.
Meanwhile, the chastened Republican Party, which will have lost more than a few border moderates, will repackage itself and add a wall at the Southern Border as a core platform point. The Republican nominee in 2008 will probably support that point, and if he does the BorderBots will come roaring back to the polls and the Republicans roar back to the majority.

False assumption --- that everyone participating in that poll is part of the "Base".
I certainly didn't feel the need to post a vanity on my anniversary here, either.
Good day,
CD
Some of you folks sound like all the liberals the day after Bush defeated Kerry. Since everybody they knew voted for Kerry, they didn't even consider that maybe Bush actually got more votes. For them, the only logical conclusion was that the voting machines had been rigged.
Look, just because people disagree with you doesn't mean that there is a conspiracy with "infiltrators", "disruptors", and (my personal favorite) "sleepers". All it means is that some people disagree with you, and maybe----just maybe----MOST people disagree with you.
And by the way, you seem to be a hypocrite in this regard. You are the King of false accusations and calling people names.
The idiocy of your post is self evident.
Bang the drum, but please avoid destroying the progress made over the years.
By destroying the party (i.e. pouting and staying home) you will destroy gains for the anti-abortion movement, rebuilding the DOD etc...etc..etc..
It's taken years to get Supremem Court nominations we like....now over this issue you'll piss it away.
Immigration is a critical national issue and border control will become tougher with continued pressure and grass roots work. The border bunnies on FR are pathetic thumb suckers who would rather acheive nothing because they can't have it all.
I certainly hope that your wonderfully common sense analysis will be taken to heart by the FReepers who have strayed into lunatic "punish Republicans by voting for Democrats" area, but I have my doubts because they seem so intent on revenge that they've lost their ability to think straight. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face.
Regardless, thank you for your great rant. It's much appreciated and it's bookmarked. I pray it does some good around here.
Jim Robinson wrote the foreward for a book called "Hillary's Secret War". Free Republic is featured prominently in the book as are other conservative web sites.
In the 90's, staffers in the Clinton White House posted here. So did staffers from The Washington Post and other liberal news organizations.
They are opinion shapers. we have all seen screen names recently that we've never seen before although they signed up years ago. They come here to stir dissent and create an atmosphere of anger and drive a wedge between Republicans.
We're seeing a lot of that now, and anyone who thinks that the posters who are advocating leaving the party are conservatives should read the book to reach an understanding how the leftists work on web sites like this one.
