You are correct sir. I do not believe the job of the opposition party is to support what the government does, it is to oppose it. At least that is the case in parliamentary politics. Bush needs support of the Republicans, not the Democrats.

The democrats support issues that appeal to democrats. They're by nature not going to support anything in the Republican agenda. Have some common sense, understand what goes on. Its okay to support the republican party and conservative politics without hating another party.
(by the way, i voted Labour in the last election, which is the center-right party in the UK)
Well, we are not a Parlimentary system (thank God!). If we were Bush might very well have been removed by now in a no confidence vote.
It's not the job of Republicans to take whatever the party leaders decide to do and support it. It is their job to listen to the voters in the party or suffer the consequenses. Most of us at this site Americans first, conservatives second and Republicans third. There is nothing American or conservative in flooding the country with 100 million illegals.
