"Some of us here aren't hell bent on destroying the GOP. Live with it."
The GOP is perfectly capable of doing that, with or without the help of anyone on FR, thank you. But Wow! What a great sentiment that is! Yes! We must save the GOP at all costs. National sovereignty, 218 million more immigrants, legalizing the illegals, trashing the middle class and the GOP base and busting the treasury is a small, small sacrifice to make to save the GOP. If we all buckle down now and make that sacrifice, it will keep the GOP from being destroyed! What a marvelous idea! As usual, I'm sitting here just awestruck at your brilliance. A big WOO HOO for you, gal.
Let no FReeper forget our four part creed:
Party of principle.
Party over nation.
Party uber alles.
Party like it's 1939.

It is not I who is putting my one agenda before the good of this country.
It is you.
And isn't 1939 where you all want to take the party?

Maybe you can apologize to Howlin for wrongly calling her out for a Nazi attack and then not even pinging her to what was a false charge.
"So has every other nation."
exactly, so lets not get off point. We know what Bush meant. Do I need to post out my immigrant Bill of Requirements again?
And a good portion of those aren't even conservatives or Republicans.
I agree 100%. I mean, I've bene railing against Bush unmercifully here, in public, with people I know, etc, about Bush's total lack of any kind of spine to secure the border of get rid of illegals. And tonight, I was stunned by this speach. He said 90% or more of the things that real conservatives like Tencredo and Limbaugh have been saying should be done to secure the border, and now tonight all these silly ridiculous people are ripping Bush apart and talking about how this speech finished off the conservative majority in November. That just defies logic, since the things Bush said have massive popular support in the American public, and are opposed only be illegals and liberals. It's pretty simple. Conservatives, REAL conservative have called for what Bush said tonight, liberals have long opposed it all. Those here tonight all over Bush are either DU trolls or liberals or both. I cannot see how any real conservative can be bent out of shape by this speach. It's silly. But then, any lib can post and say they're a conservative. We'll see how November turns out. If this is the tack the conservatives are going to take the next few months, I wouldn't want to be a democrat right now after this speach. They have to oppose it and all he said in it, and that will put the democrats in the way of what a clear majority of Americans want.
So we agree that it was an empty point? Saying that America is a nation of immigrants is as relevant as saying America is a nation of people.
All nations were created by a combination of conquerors and immigrants.
"Your cutsie posts don't change the fact that Bush said clearly he would not sign any bill that proposed amnesty."
Bush has re-defined the word "amnesty" (hmm. . . wonder what the meaning of "is" is).
Amnesty has nothing to do with citizenship; tying those two together is what has enabled the Bush administration to triangulate this issue.
Amnesty really means any type of program which allows people here illegally to remain here. And that is exactly what he is proposing.
So, when Bush says he is not for amnesty, he is telling the truth. But that doesn't mean the same thing as when other people say they are not for amnesty.
See ya SC, have a good evening.
Thanks!
20 years? Try 60. I remember when I was a kid growing up in San Diego in the 60's, and there were always thousands of illegal Mexican immmigrants crossing the border and going to the CA central valley to pick the crops and take care of farm animals. Everybody knew they were just walking across the border in south San Diego county, and that was back during the Johnson Adminstration.
This problem has been building ever since the end of World War II and people around here are getting all excited like it's a problem created by Bush and blaming it on our current President. It's ridiculous; the difference is that today we have bloggers right near the border in souther AZ who post pictures of Mexicans hiking down trails after crossing over. So the current administration now has to engage in more honest debate about immigration and can no longer use the deception employed by every President from Truman through Clinton, all of whom have exagerrated greatly when saying that we're making a truly serious effort to guard the Mexican border in all areas. I think now we are going to get serious.
Thanks for the confirmation--I wondered if what I thought I heard was my imagination since others said they heard support from them.
I loved your post with the scriptures. Thanks for bringing the issue "home".
What would Jesus do?
And then complementing her witty response!
Exactly. Bill Clinton didn't call his social programs "wealth redistribution" either but that is what they were.
What's a Moby?
I will vote for the Republican newbie who is challenging Chet Edwards (D-TX) because he is very strong on border enforcement. All candidates, Democrats or Republicans or Independents, who vow to overturn the dirty deal the President and the Senate are about to foist on the country should get conservative support. Anyone who supports the President's plan should be defeated. It's really simple.
Gotcha,Thanks
My Mother is a Freeper and 73. You use the phrase "Old Broad" the day after Mother's Day? Fool!!
I am Hispanic... do you fear me?
Just out of curiousity what is your pay scale? I'm wondering because my stepson is there working construction. According to him construction for the most part pays low wages- he is an euipment operator and makes good wages though. He started out wanting to be a carpenter a few years ago; but said the pay scale was low for entry jobs.
