The only two things Bush has to do is enforce EXISTING laws - that is, uphold the rule of law:
1. Order the SSA/IRS to make an I-9 validity checking system available to employers. (Right now, employers can only verify that a SSN exists - not whether 5,000+ other people are using the same number.)
2. Direct the DOL/DOJ/IRS to begin rigorous enforcement of existing labor/immigration/employment laws.
The President can only request funding from Congress and administer the programs Congress approves. If Congress funds $250 billion this year to begin dealing with the illegal aliens, the President must administer that program. In the meantime he is severely constrained in what he can actually do.
From the "WHOA, didn't see THAT one coming" Department of the Obvious: 1.Who didn't think that the *now* $6.00-an-hour illegal would be granted amnesty and voila'(sorry, don't know the spanish word for voila'), becomes *newly formed union member* demanding $18.00 an-hour for same job? Suddenly, the cheap wage excuse has ended and the amnesty has been about WHAT, exactly? A brand new democrat voting union has been formed, and once again, we find ourselves screwed.
