"We must reject amnesty, but recognize that it is not realistic to round up millions of people and send them home," said White House spokeswoman Maria Tamburri in a preview of Bush's speech.

Don't need to round them all up.  Enforce the law.  Make it too darn expensive for the employers to employ them.  Make it next to impossible for them to receive public assistance.  The majority of illegals will self-deport.

Realistically we probably can't get rid of all 11 million. But we can get rid of many, if not at least a majority of them.

This crap about "we can't get them all, so we won't get any of them" is the kind of reasoning you get from 11 year kids. It is insulting that Bush, or anyone else, thinks we are so bleeping stupid to accept that line.

Apparently, the republicans now think we are as stupid as the DUMs think we are. Jeez, what a pantload.

I admired RR. I can also admit his flaws and errors. But the man NEVER talked down to Americans as if they were retarded children. I think that is the quality that the people found so endearing in the man.

The problem is the doublespeak BS of "pay a fine" is not amnesty.

They can't sell that.

It is amnesty for a price. Pay X dollars (which is CHEEP to BUT a us citizenship) and file four years of tax returns and study the multiple choice questions for bare minimum english 101 and TADA instant amnesty with a coat of cheep paint.

And even if they don't all "self-deport", you've at least stated a policy, made a stand, and made it less attractive for NEW illegals to show up.

Why do cops write speeding tickets? They can't stop ALL the speeders - but y'know, everybody slows down when they see a cop...

I wish that were true. If the "migration" started to flow the other way, back to Mexico, I think we would see a Mexican example of border control that would show how it should be done. The flow is only one way. We will probally have to drop them back by parachute or something (sarc)
