May 15, 2006 -- WASHINGTON - In his live, nationally televised address tonight, President Bush will tell Americans that it's impossible to deport the estimated 11 million illegal aliens living here.
"We must reject amnesty, but recognize that it is not realistic to round up millions of people and send them home," said White House spokeswoman Maria Tamburri in a preview of Bush's speech.
She said Bush plans to spell out his vision for sealing the border, enforcing the law, and "creating a rational system for workers to come into our country and to do jobs Americans won't do." Bush plans to visit the U.S.-Mexican border this week, and will dispatch his Cabinet to help sell the immigration plan.
The Senate plans to return to the contentious issue this week now that Republicans and Democrats have a deal to plow through controversial amendments. But the House and Senate are far apart on whether to put illegals on a path to citizenship.
Tamburri said Bush would call for "better equipment, increased funding, and advanced technology" to secure the border.
She didn't confirm press reports that Bush wants to expand deployments of National Guard Troops to step up border enforcement. Some Guard troops are already deployed in Arizona and New Mexico, but Bush is considering a big increase.
White House National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley said that enforcement was the Border Patrol's job - but then asked whether they needed help from the Guard on an "interim basis."
"This is not about militarizing the border," he said. The president is looking to do everything he can to secure the border. It's what the American people want."

And you are going to take a job pciking vegetables or tarring a roof in 100 degree heat, when, Mr. uber American.
The US can put a man on the moon for crying out loud...but we can't seem to figure out how to get rid of a bunch of law-breakers?
Hey, I am in favor of enforcing the law. What you bring up are reasonable approaches.
Easy. President declares Martial Order! Anyone without papers is bussed back to the border and threatened that if they are found here illegally again, they will be executed.

***The President has defended this country, and will continue to do so. He may not do it just like you want it done, but I haven't heard of any more domestic bombings like you experienced in your state.***
I'm sorry but the open border is putting our country at great risk... if you can't see that you're either blind or very very dumb.
I am. Read my tagline. There are millions and millions of people who have been patiently waiting in line to come into this country legally, they should be given their chance.
Yes, we CAN deport 11 million if we have to, but we won't have to. You do it a little at a time.
If we go around saying that we can't deport 11 million illegals what we are saying is there is no hope of us ever enforcing our laws. You might as well say let's eliminate congress because we have just surrendered to anarchy. If we can't enforce our laws, how do we ever hope to win the war on terror?
READ MY TAG LINE!
This is a perfect example of what government does best. Create a problem, then create a solution. Or try to fix a problem and create two more problems.
I agree that the pols and elite and whoever else do not want to force the illegals to go home and they surely will not unless the law abiding citizens raise enough fuss.
If they are so hard to track outsource the problem to a credit card company. They will track them.
The troops on the border is just them blowing smoke on the worker bees to pacify them and make them settle down and like it.
I agree with your next to last sentence and I think your first paragraph desribes what will happen. I think the swamp will blow enough smoke that the 20 million who are here will get amnesty and citizenship. Americans are too comfortable to fight it.
" Well I guess you would rather have the President kneejerkpandering to you and your comrades."
Dane's only argument is to infer anyone for a secure border is a communist.
zook: your statement "most Americans don't consider . . . these immigrants (sic) as criminals . . "
got milk/cite?
The last poll I saw showed about 80% of Americans favor deporting illegal aliens. Criminals when they set foot in our country, per Title 8 US Code.
Not dazzled or baffled, sorry.
Yes there are some. Like cleaning the sh*t from the toilet bowl at work for 8 dollar an hour rather than 15 dollars an hour, and you can name dozens of similar examples.
Can we at least TRY to get rid of some of them?
Making 11 million (more like 20 million) of them legal will cause them to demand full scale wages as well as benefits. They will no longer be cheap labor and there will be no reason for employers to want to hire them. So, another 20 million will sneak in to meet the illegal demands of criminal employers for cheap, exploitable labor.
I'm watching Fox News Channel right now and there's a Democrat Strategist agreeing with the President and praising his support of the Kennedy bill.
Strawman. If you only had a brain.
oops forgot to ping you to #192
As has been said, no need to boot them out. We need to enforce the laws we have. We already have the laws and enforcement mechanisms to heavily fine employers and deny all public services; they will self deport.
You are using a straw man red-herring argument. They are not going to round every one up. However, my thought would be to constantly lower the number by the floowing:
1. Deport every illegal convicted of any crime;
2. Deport every illegal caught DWI;
3. Deport every illegal caught on an outstanding warrant;
4. Deport every illegal finishing a jail term, not let them back into the popultation;
5. Tax foreign money transfers;
By doing that you will easily get rid of the worst illegals and cause others to self deport.
Please tell me what is wrong with that and why that can't be done.
