President Bush should face impeachment if he lied about the reasons for going to war in Iraq (as he indeed did) or if he broke the law in ordering the National Security Agency to spy on Americans (which he admits he did).He did?
- Bush undoubtedly had more reasons for invading Iraq than he found it necessary to candidly reveal. But then, he gave more reasons at the time than this writer is willing to admit. It wasn't "all about WMD."
- Simple logic (slightly too simple). Bush does admit that
- the NSA is checking phone records to find out who is talking to al Qaeda suspects. And that
- NSA is listening in on conversations between al Qaeda suspects abroad and people in America without taking the time to get search warrants. And that
- there is a law which purports to forbid that.
QED. Except for one minor thing: that portion of the law has been held to be unconstitutional. It is exactly as if Bush's critics were claiming (not that they ever would) that notwithstanding Roe v. Wade, abortion is illegal in Alabama if the state law against abortion was never repealed by the Alabama Legislature.
I am always amused by writers such as this guy, who KNOW the truth and yet just move it aside so they won't have to fit it into their thought process. But it's self-defeating, like writing about a criminal you want to go to the chair even though you have just heard he has been found not guilty.
