Tony Hall is taking his fight with San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom to a whole new level -- and maybe to court.
Hall, the former supervisor from west of Twin Peaks, has filed a blistering legal claim against the city alleging he was unfairly fired from his $159,000-a-year job as Treasure Island czar last year.
Hall was voted off the island, he says, in retaliation for having blown the whistle on a sweetheart deal involving Newsom and the former Navy base's main developer, Darius Anderson, a big Democratic fundraiser and Newsom supporter.
The mayor's handpicked Treasure Island Development Authority voted 6-1 in November to fire Hall after he had served just 15 months of what was supposed to have been a 3 1/2-year gig.
In a five-page complaint filed with the city last Monday -- just under the six-month deadline for bringing a claim -- Hall says city officials never allowed him to do his job properly. When he resisted, he says, they "engineered a program of systemic character assassination'' against him, with the end result being his wrongful termination.
Cities usually reject such claims, and typically the next step is court. Hall was on vacation in Colorado last week and was unavailable for comment on whether he was pondering a lawsuit.
Frank Gallagher, who served as Hall's island spokesman, said his former boss' claim was partly in response to the city "nickel-and-diming him to death'' over retirement and medical benefits -- even to the point of insisting that Hall owed the city money for his use of a car.
City records show that Hall's island folks had calculated he was owed $281,826 for the 18 months that remained on his contract. Then the controller's office deducted money to cover health, dental and retirement costs.

Willie Brown is long gone, but his kind of politics lives on.
A little background: Hall was on SF's politburo, and was constantly attacking Newsome. So Newsome got Hall a high-paying job on Treasure Island, which required him to resign from the Board of Stupidvisors. A year and a quarter later, Newsome had Hall fired.
There are no good guys here, so just enjoy the show.
Say it ain't so, Mr. Mayor....ROTFLMAO....corruption in California....wow!
Can you tell me what or where Treasure Island is?
Its an island in SF bay just between SF and Oakland along
the bridge. Used to be a USCG/Navy base. Looks like its
going to become a boondoggle.
Treasure Island is located in San Franscisco Bay between Oakland and San Francisco. It is a man-made island and, until 1997, was occupied by the U.S. Navy and was headquarters for the 12th Naval District.
Good idea. We can only hope they all hang each other.
TI is connected to Yerba Buenna Island which is where the Oakland-Bay Bridge touches down to convert from a cantilever structure to a suspension structure. Getting on-or-off of Yerba Buenna is always a real adventure.
Now that the Navy has left, SF wants to turn TI back into an Island Showcase with lots of money to be made or stolen.
Ah, thanks for the memory jog. I remember that YBI offramp from I80 being the most abrupt freeway exit I had ever experienced.
