I think he forgot the biggest downside in the longer run:
Our desire to wage a PC war (don't touch the Mosques, watch out for collateral damage) has resulted in an expensive protracted battle for which many Americans are losing their taste.
The direct result of that is that states like Iran can now rely on a certain degree of impunity. How eager does anyone really think our gvt is to get militarily involved in Iran right now?
I know, I know... We can mainly blame the PR of the left for that predicament (e.g. "Quagmire", etc..). But wasn't that really foreseable?
Looking beyond Iraq, the cost of seeing the US tuck its tail again like it did after Viet Nam is simply too high for this not to have been considered.
There are those who hate this President and our country and wish it nothing but harm. We cannot let them win.
