Exactly and I cannot, for the life of me, see why in the world the Republicans with Bush leading the charge, doesn't get out front with several absolutely winning points.
Such as:
1. The roaring economy and it may die if the democrats gain control and raise taxes.
2. ANWR - drill and watch gas prices recede. Just the threat of drilling will reduce prices.
3. The absolute success of the Medicare Drug Plan.
4. The WOT and the fact we haven't been attacked since 9/11, thank Heavens.
5. Social Security - the 3rd rail that no one wants to talk about anymore, but was just announced this week that the funds will not last as long as projected.
I could go on and on but am listening to the love fest between Biden/Specter on FNS. Jeez, what a joke for two senators and one is supposedly on our side.
That has been Tony Snow's theme for months now. The White House has hired Tony Snow. I think they may have gotten the message. I'm betting that the appointment of Hayden is going to be the kick off for a much more confrontational strategy. I also bet that Bush is going to veto the emergency appropriations bill being debated in the Senate right now. The kicker is he's going to point to Republican Trent Lott's $700 million "railroad to nowhere" as the example of inappropriate things to have in an emergency bill meant to deal with disaster relief and war costs. He'll leave open the possibility of signing a law with that in it, so long as it's properly debated and fully funded from cuts elsewhere, but he'll insist that it not be inserted in such emergency legislation as an earmark.
And the crowd goes wild!!!!!!!!
If he does that, and if he let's Tony be Tony, then watch for approval ratings well above 50% within a month of those actions.
I think that is the most ignorant post I have seen today. Medicare is a bigger disaster than Social Security and its impact will be felt much sooner. Do some research - look at how Medicare is funded - look at the costs, both direct and indirect.
The prescription drug benefit is one of the reasons Republicans are facing a huge conservative backlash.
