We'll see. Santorum has come from behind before. Actually, I wouldn't be surprised to learn that conservative objections help Santorum.

Soros is supporting Casey. I wouldn't want to be supporting Santorum's loss, considering the alternative.

As for growth: unfortunately, that is how it works. It is about making deals, forming coalitions and cutting the difference. THAT is why conservatives do not control the party.

If anyone thinks the American people are going to support "my way or die" politicians, they are, IMO, wrong. I believe that is why the donks are in such bad shape.

This nation is consistently somewhat right of center. Like it or not, when confronted with a conservative, a progressive and a RINO, the RINO seems to be the GOP choice because they can garner the swing votes. There are some exceptions and I believe we need to support those canny conservatives who have majority support in their districts/states. In blue states, the progressives win and in swing states, it is, so far, the moderates of either party who have won. People learned from the Perot disaster and too many people are frightened by what they perceive as hard nosed, uncompromising right wingers.

Until the elections prove that America will vote in a landslide for strong conservative candidates, there will not be enough of them to make much of a difference.

You're forgetting one important distinction...they're nuts, and we're not.

And I'm not kidding. I think parallelism is a mistake. Plurality wins just as surely as majority. We will NEVER have a majority, but we've already got the plurality. And by "we" I mean conservatives, not republicans.

Question.

Did you ever hear of a man called Ronald Reagan?

He was a governor of a state that is widely known for its liberalism and he was a conservative. He then ran as president as a conservative, governed as a conservative (despite a mostly democrat congress) and then won a second election in a landslide with 49 states (out of 50, in case you needed some perspective).

Rick Santorum won as a conservative. He's behind now that he is not. BTW, his faux conservatism became apparent when he help to defeat a real conservative by helping one of the most liberal Republicans.

Ron Paul, a libertarian Republican wins in a mostly democrat district by standing solidly on the Constitution. Tom Coburn is a solid conservative and won in a majority Democrat district. He term limited himself in the House and then ran for the Senate and he was elected as a conservative.

The problem isn't that America doesn't lean conservative, but that the GOP crushes conservative candidates in the primary.

BTW, when Santorum came from behind it was (again) when he ran as a conservative, voted as a conservative, and had the hearty support of conservatives.

In the last 2 years, his record sucks and he has alienated his base on just about every issue. He still talks a good game, especially at fund raisers, but his actions fail to back up those words.

He claims to be pro life but supports pro abortion candidates whose votes negate his. He claims to be pro gun, but supports gun grabbers who cancel out his vote a lot of the time even though he is only 'with us' 64% over the last ten years.

He claimed to be a conservative, but has since emulated the 'compassion' of Senor Bush and the spending habits of Arlen Specter.

His last victory was by less than one percent. He has lost the support of many of those who get out the vote and give him money.

Don't count on a 'comeback' this time. He dug his own grave and dared us to push him into it.
