Peter says that a "day" with the Lord is as a thousand years to us...

Yes, I'm aware of that scripture too. However, I'm not convinced that it was written to be a precise conversion factor, but may have been a figure of speech to illustrate that time is an entirely different thing to the Creator than to mortal men.

Yes I can understand that thinking, however the prophets major and minor all refer to the future "in that day" or Day of the Lord, etc, and here Peter specifically incorporates the prophets in this chapter.

Then you have Christ telling us 'I have foretold you all things', so that would included what 'time' or 'day' or 'age' is referring to.

Paul says these things were written (no New Testament at this time) as ensamples (examples) for our admonition for what would be the end of this 'age'. Time is not ignored, just we in flesh cannot fully contemplate what span is specifically being discussed whether it was previous age, present age or age yet to come.
