Magnitude 8.1 earthquake near Island of Tonga in South Pacific
more to follow
Tsunami could strike Fiji within the next 30 minutes.
Batten down the hatches... Prayers to the folks in peril.
Looking at map, seems like australia would be target as well?
So I guess it's way too late to tell FEMA?
Yikes
No warning for Hawaii, just a watch. Per National Weather Service spokesman on Fox News.
Where is Mayor Nagin?
I don't know alot about those areas. Is that enough time for people to get out of the way? Also, Foxnews mentioned Hawaii. Is that really very likely? I wish I knew my Pacific geography better!
susie
Lucky for THEM.
I guess this is Bush's fault too.
He's in Dallas....parent-teacher conferences for his kids. ;o)
Safely in Louisiana. Fiji is saved.
Correct that title, It's a watch only:

It has already been downgraded to an advisory (Hawaii).
If a tsunami should form and head towards Hawaii, they have the best warning system in the world (I think it's the best in the world). There are sirens that go off that you can't miss, and everyone knows what that means. I hope it doesn't come to this, but if it does, at least Hawaii has their act together.
