It's the border, stupid

By Salena Zito TRIBUNE-REVIEW Sunday, April 23, 2006

LAREDO, Texas There is no homeland security without border security.

Americans sitting in the heartland may not be sweating over border issues but Webb County, Texas, Sheriff Rick Flores thinks they should be.

"Any sheriff, whether they are in Dallas, Iowa or even Nebraska, would much prefer that we squash a threat at the border than force them to deal with it after it gets through us," the sheriff told me in his office here.

"And border security is only as good as its weakest link; there are far too many weak links in our current policies."

You mean 100 Senators and 435 Congressmen? Sorry, 434. Tancredo is the only one with a pair.

I guess passing up all that money from the big businesses that hire illegals like our huge agribusiness and processing plants is not an option. Our elected officials are so lacking in vision and intellect that they are not capable of reason anymore.

I think they have collectively lost their minds.

Hopefully they have lost enough of their voter base to soon be unemployed.

LAREDO, Texas

>>There is no homeland security without border security.

"Smugglers have a ready-made infrastructure in place ... and they are just waiting to substitute terrorists and their cargoes for drugs if the price is right." <<

I bet if the President and Congress realized this, they would do something about the borders.

HA HA HA...who am I kidding?

You want to send a message to the RNC that they will hear loud and clear??? Then do the following:

Send them one of these instead of a donation, using the RNC's own postage paid return envelopes!!!

Send one along to a politically like-minded relative or friend who opposes Amnesty, but doesn’t visit Free Republic!!!

The RNC will miss your money more than they will miss your vote!!! If you do not have access to a printer, then write “Secure Our Borders, Stop Catering to Illegals, Then We Will Send American Dollars” or something similar on your donation slip and return it to the RNC in their postage paid envelopes will work as well as sending the “peso”!!!

If you do want to give financially to Republicans, give only to individual candidates/politicians who support or vote to secure our borders and don’t cater to illegals!!!

I heard this Sheriff speaking on Hannity. He asked us to pray for he and his men.
