In order to make a massive selling movie about the War on Terror you have to make the 911 attacks just one part of it.
I think people saw Flight 93 as too much of a documentary, when what the US public wants is a much better done version of Pearl Harbor, where you deal with the lead up to war, the attack, and the response and do it from the eyes of people the audience gets to know.

Box Office Mojo, it opened in less than half the number of theaters that top-grosser "RV" did (1795 vs 3639), yet made 82% of what the top grosser did, with a per-screen gross of $2050 versus RV's $1241

Everyone remember, 10% of box office is being donated to the 9/11 memorial fund. Even if you feel you cannot emotionally handle the film, buy a ticket or two to support it.
