Apparently you do not know the dispositions of forces in Europe at the end of WWII. There was no way we could have forced the Soviets back no competent military analyst would back up that wet dream. Patton would not have been up against any lightweight in Zukov either. Such speculation is beyond silly.
"There was no way we could have forced the Soviets back"
They were beyond exhausted and their supply lines were stretched to the breaking point.
And tell me what American Soldier would have gone home knowing that the Russians had kidnapped thousands of their fellow soldiers.
We had the A-bomb in 1945 -- they didn't for years -- case closed.
We now (since 1999) know, that we had radar artillery shells, which helped us defeat superior german (or Russian) tanks; and we had proven that airpower was queen of the battle field. Not to mention the atomic weapons that Soviets did not YET possess! Not to mention that Stalin was a bully so just standing up to him could have worked on it's own.
So I think we DID have the power to stop the Russians. And we could have saved Eastern Europe from occupation. What we lacked was political Will, just like today....
