There was NO way the US was going to turn on an ally AND ramp up sufficient military forces to defeat Stalin. This is delusional and a PERFECT example of why the military is under civilian control as per our Constitution.

You seem to know much about modern warfare.
You say that nukes were not an option - did the Japanese know this?
And why would Europe not tolerate atomic bombs on Stalingrad? Chernobyl released hundreds of times more radiation than Hiroshima.
