President Tancredo? Just Maybe, If You Believe This Poll
Human Events Online ^ | 04/27/06 | Robert B. Bluey

Posted on 04/27/2006 3:17:35 PM PDT by VU4G10

A new poll from Rasmussen Reports has some bad news for Republicans—well, almost all Republicans. If you’re Rep. Tom Tancredo (R.-Colo.), the news couldn’t be better.

While a generic Republican candidate trails a generic Democrat by 12 percentage points, according to the poll, a third-party candidate who runs on a get-tough-on-immigration platform not only beats the Republican, but also actually runs even with the Democrat. Here’s an excerpt:

The survey also asked respondents how they would vote if "a third party candidate ran in 2008 and promised to build a barrier along the Mexican border and make enforcement of immigration law his top priority."

With that option, support fell sharply for both major parties. The Democrats still come out on top with support from 31% of Americans. The third party candidate moved into a virtual tie at 30% while the GOP fell to 21%.

If anyone fits Rasmussen’s description it’s Tancredo, who has made a very public name for himself as the anti-illegal-immigration crusader in Congress. And having spent time in both Iowa and New Hampshire beginning last year, he’s posited himself to be the candidate who could play spoiler.

Coming back to reality for just one moment, I should note the rest of the Rasmussen commentary about the poll numbers:

This result probably reflects unhappiness with both parties on the immigration issue rather than a true opportunity for a third party. Historically, issues that drive third party candidates get co-opted by one of the major parties as they demonstrate popular appeal. Most Americans favor a barrier along the border and enforcement of existing law prior to other reforms.

With the immigration issue candidate as an option, 36% of conservative voters opt for the Republican candidate while 35% take the third party option. Among political moderates, 34% pick the Democrat while 32% prefer the third party option.

I’d recommend reading the full Rasmussen summary as well as my post last night about the new Diageo/Hotline poll on Democrats.

You were the first neighsayer to come along and play the part of David Gregory, telling us why nothing will work in Iraq.

Oh, I never said that nothing will work in Iraq - just that a guy buyback program wouldn't work in Iraq. As far as the Shiite militias turning in their guns, do you really think they are going to do that while Sunni militias coming from Saudi hang on to theirs? For that matter, do you expect that a spokesman of the "Religion of Peace" would sincerely advocate unilateral disarmament? Or are you just making a political statement. Yeah, that's what I thought.

Yeah, you'd have to be crazy not to want this in every U.S. city

Wow. True Americans, with that level of poverty, would be at the welfare office demanding bling bling, instead of building a fence out of pallets.

Pukin Dog vs PIAPS sounds like a clear-cut choice to me! Ya got me vote (for a six-pack), but could ya change your handle a little bit after the coronation? Say, to P. Doggie, or something like that with a little pizzazz?

It affects my life 100% since I have in the last 5 years become surrounded by Mexican Nationales in my neighborhood. The contant need for removal of spray on graffitti and gang slogans is what is really irritating. They seem to have a problem with the concept of private property.

You are obsessively overrought with this issue.

You gotta support what the poll tells you to support. Right?

Actually, I'm waiting for who the NYT and Washington Post tell me to vote for.

Otherwise, yeah, you pretty much got it right. I'm a moron. Don't ever think or reason for myself. Can't mentally work my way out of a wet paper bag.

I think Hillary's sexy and aspire to have a physique like Uncle Ted Kennedy!

Oh yeah, I also run around going "H'yuh" a lot. I try and protrude my two front teeth as much as possible when doing so.

Vive Le McCain!!!

You implied that all the common sense reasons given, ad nauseum, for opposing illegal immigration are really a smokescreen for "xenophobia".

That was not at all what I said or implied.

I specifically pointed to those who worry about "cultural" changes resulting if immigration is allowed to continue. I might add, incidentally, that Tom Tancredo, soon after his election to Congress, called for a "time-ont" on all immigration, contending that we can't handle the influx for, primarily, cultural reasons. All the complaints about "they won't assimilate" are along these same lines, which I say border on xenophobia. I did not say, and do not believe, that all who oppose immigration are xenophobes any more than all who oppose the war in Iraq are left-wingers. There are other reasons, certainly.

However, I will stick to my guns on the mass hysteria statement. That's exactly what you get when the population goes off half-cocked on something most people know next to nothing about and react to viscerally rather than intellectually. That's what happened with the Dubai ports deal and, before that, with the implication that Iraq was behind 9-11. It's also how aggrieved citizens sometimes reacted in the dark days of lynchings in the South.

Scapegoating is not unique to the American tradition, but it does have a permanent place in our history. It's been one ethnic group after another: Catholics, Jews, Irish, Negroes, Japanese, Mormons, A-rabs. The crime statistics some anti-immigrant groups cite would be downright scary if true, but who is going to condemn a whole country (Mexico) for the actions of a few? I'm not.

If anti-immigration activists would put even half as much effort into campaigning to rid the country of transfer payments and corporate welfare we'd all be better off. As it is going now, the government continues to grow, our individual liberties are threatened more and the hysteria created by those who view immigration as the single biggest issue keeps more important issues out of general public discussion. If I was a conspiracy nut, I'd think it was planned that way.

Yes they would. And just think, we'll soon have 12 million more signing up on legal welfare rolls which will help them bring in several more family members each.

...the hysteria created by those who view immigration as the single biggest issue keeps more important issues out of general public discussion.

I'd hate to send you running to the cupboard for the tin foil but could there possibly be a connection between the illegals-to-amnesty issue and those big-government nanny-state issues you recommend we pay more attention to?

________________________________________________________________________

This is not about workers rights or fair immigration policies. It has to do with international communist/socialist orgs looking to gain the political upperhand in the U.S..

Posted by JeffHead Jeff links to Mexica.org's 'after protest' pic fest. You can see there what the marchers thought they were marching for.

A poster for Friday’s march. March 31. This poster lists the Latino orgs that are promoting the protests. They are all communist/socialist front orgs.

Here is my analysis of what is going on behind the scenes.

Here is some evidence that 'amnesty' increases illegal entries. These people knew before the demonstrations that the time was ripe.

Smith Act of 1940 This is the U.S. statute that ought to apply to the organized gathering of tens of thousands of foreign nationals calling for the overthrow of our country.

I need to make a correction to my previous postings. H.R. 4437 does not simplify the process of documenting employees. The article at that last link says this:

No Elimination and Reduction of Employment Eligibility Documents. One of the few positive aspects of a mandatory employment eligibility system would be the simplification of the hiring process by reducing the number of documents employers would have to verify to one or two. The bill does not do so. Several other reform proposals (such as the Dreier bill, H.R. 98) provide for such simplification by requiring the use of a tamperproof Social Security card and no others. The bill only studies the use of such documents but does not eliminate the use of any documents and the confusion such documents cause employers.

My apologies to all for proliferating confusion on that. This means that H.R. 4437, the best of all bills so far put forward by our esteemed Congress, isn't too good after all.

Understand that the provision that the protesters say is 'racist,' that makes illegals felons, was inserted by the Dems a short time ago. That clarifies why Hillary happened to discover the immigration issue a week before the marches. Why she demonized Republicans as "making Jesus a criminal."

Keep in mind just who organized these protests. Who provided the tens of thousands of T-shirts, the thousands of professionally made signs, the hours and hours of promotion on Spanish language radio and TV stations. It has been noticed that Islamic orgs names and logos appear on some of these signs as well. Remember that NEA teachers and administrators are the ones who have assisted the march organizers by providing bussing for their students, hoisting Mexican flags at school and overlooking the truancy.

Don't forget that the last two Presidential elections were nearly 50/50. Think about how our Congress is looking for a way to appease these foreign nationals through legislation. No election necessary. The outcome of legalizing 11 million illegals and encouraging more to come will be a solid lock for the left forevermore in national elections. We don’t need an ‘immigration’ bill. We need and want a border security and illegal aliens bill. An immigration/guest worker bill can come after that is done.

Mexico is Rich- Mexican wealthy play American taxpayers for suckers

Good thread for any that missed it. It should really make you mad.

Every dollar spent in U.S. taxes for social services for illegal aliens frees up additional cash to be sent south as part of the annual remittances which provided $20 billion in 2005. According to the CNN news show Lou Dobbs Tonight (3/21/05), "Remittances, as they're called, are expected to become Mexico's primary source of income this year, surpassing the amount of money that Mexico makes on oil exports for the first time ever."

Mayans in Chiapas Region Convert to Islam

The bill that was just defeated in the Senate was an amnesty, plain and simple. But take a look at what these treasonous scumbags tried to hide in it. They will be back and we can expect more of this if we do not act decisively.

Hidden Bombs (Extremely Important Article on Immigration)

The second nasty surprise? Just before the committee approved the bill on the evening of March 27, Sen. Richard Durbin (D-Ill.) offered the "DREAM Act" as an amendment. It passed on a voice vote.

The DREAM Act is a nightmare. It repeals a 1996 law that prohibits state universities from offering in-state tuition rates to illegal aliens. The principle, of course, is that no illegal alien should be entitled to receive a taxpayer-subsidized benefit that out-of-state U.S. citizens can't get. But the committee's bill allows illegals to be treated better than those U.S. citizens on tuition.

Here is another reason Washington doesn't seem to want to do anything helpful.

What does the White House think about all of this?

U.S. Senator John McCain is offering $50.00 an hour to anyone willing to stay in Yuma for 1 year and pick lettuce. (the season is actually about 18 weeks in mid-winter)

Here are his numbers. They will ask you for your name address and phone number.

This issue is important. Hey, I hear you. But why is it suddenly a crisis??

IT ISN'T SUDDENLY A CRISIS!!! Jesus, man, maybe you haven't been bothered by it, but legions of us Americans who are watching our country get run over by illegals have been bitching about it for years, only to see it get worse every day. Illegal immigration has been an absolute disgrace under the Bush administration and our President cannot ignore that fact.

Only because there is an upcoming election did the pols start listening, especially after getting feedback from their polling data. Typical pols decided they could address our concerns by placating us with a bullshite unenforceable bill, which was a huge insulting dud. D.C. pols are too stupid and out of touch to realize what's going on in their own districts.

We're serious and refuse to be insulted with b.s. bills that are impossible to enforce. WE JUST WANT OUR BORDERS FIRMLY SECURED, but most of our reps continue to be tone deaf, which is why Tancredo is so appealing. At least he gets it.

BWAHAHAHA! "Obsessively over[w]rought"???? Not just merely "overwrought," eh?

Well, I think you're "inadequately uninformed" about the shaking "all you worked for for all these years" is going to take if you don't get just a tad "wrought" over the immigration issue and the damage it's doing to the GOP. Because if you and your fellow Bush loyalists don't, you're going to be "obsessed" with the results post-Election Day.

The Bushies don't get it. The Bush-Bots don't get it either. This President and this Congress are destroying the Republican Party. The GOP that conservatives worked so hard to build into a majority party, the party of Goldwater, Reagan, Newt and the 94 GOP Congress, is slipping away.

"None so blind as will not see...or pay attention to consistent opinion polls on an issue." You're absolutely right, and thank you for your kind words in a previous post.

Not me; if this country, including the Brown Shirts conservatives, are stupid enough to turn this country over to the liberals, WITH YOUR HELP, they deserver whatever they get.

Enjoy your "power" while you have it; once the liberals are back in office, you'll be irrelevant till the end of time.

And those will be the ones coming here legally.

But then, if the illegal aliens are naturalized, won't they demand health care, retirement bennies, paid vacation, family leave and sick days? In fact they won't have to demand it the law would require it wouldn't it? The employers will let them go and hire all new illegal foreign nationals who will be coming here in a ratio of 3-1, like last time amnesty was granted, because of what they see has just happened. Again.
