But the president is ALSO for strong border security.
It's the democrats that are BLOCKING border security.
Everyone in Washington claims to be in favor of strong border security. But most of them, Bush included, refuse to go along with the idea of securing the borders first before legalizing illegals. That makes his rhetorical stance on border security pretty much worthless.
where is his support for that? I don't see a comprehensive proposal from the white house that included strong new enforcement - border, employer sanctions, etc. its easy to say you are "for it" as a generality, show me Bush saying he will veto any bill that does not include X,Y,Z regarding security and enforcement. so far, all I see is a basic embrace of the senate bill.
The President is NOT for strong border security, othewise he would have the agencies under his direct control, INS, ICE etc. enforcing the law. He goes out of his way to make sure the laws are not enforced. This is proven by the fact that fewer arrests and deportations have taken place under his stewardship then under other presidents, including Clinton. The facts were posted on FR a few days ago and I don't have the link, but they can be checked if you wish to bother.
