Does this really shock anyone here? I'vw known this for some time now.

Bush ran on "normalization" with illegal mexicans in 2000. I'm only amazed that his base forgot about it or thought he didn't mean it. Bush never says anything he doesn't mean.

Bush ran on the Iraq war. He won on the Iraq war. Whatever other babble he may have uttered had no relevance, and he never did come out and demand a mandate to legalize illegal aliens; whatever you are smoking, please keep it to yourself and don't blow it in my direction.

How true Liberals claim he is to stubborn on the war Conservatives claim he is to stubborn on immigration. It's time to wake up and realize Bush IS A MODERATE, and in the end no one wants a moderate leader.

That was 2000. The game changed on 9/11/01.

He also ran on "don't profile Arabs at the airport" and "no nation building" but sometimes events and circumstances present themselves and policy changes become necessary.

That's true. I disagree with his policies but he does say what he means and acts on it. Much of the so called Bush Conservative agenda never was spoken by him and never existed to begin with.

He told everyone plainly before the election He and Mr Gore were not that far apart on most issues. He didn't lie about that one either. Still even that did not convince the voters as to what he stands for.

Bush in the 1960's would have been a LBJ Democrat. With each deal like this {I don't need the article to know Bush is pushing for citizenship for illegals} Bush makes achieving any form of conservative agenda an impossibility.

Any Conservative Republicans wishing reelection would do wise to distant themselves from the White House agenda omn immigration. Make no mistake about it if the GOP doesn't stand firm on no amnesty, go home and apply legally, and a secure border it will loose both houses 2006 & the Oval Office in 2008.

The only good coming from this debate is for those who don't sip the kool-aid it is exposing the globalist currently in both parties.

I guess many of his base are just plan stupid. They must have had some dumb idea he would do the will of the people. A lot of us didn't vote for Bush in 2000, we voted against Gore.

You stated:"Bush never says anything he doesn't mean. "

----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bush stated, in his radio address HERE;"Since I took office, we've increased funding for border security by 66 percent, and Federal agents have apprehended and sent home more than 6 million people entering this country illegally, including more than 400,000 with criminal records."

----------------------------------------------------------------------------- He's a buffoon. He doesn't even know what he is talking about. How could he have meant it.

:)Easy Does It:)

Bush ran on "normalization" with illegal mexicans in 2000.

Wrong! He ran on the idea that these "new Americans" are the future of the United States. He wants them here because he is enamored of the hispanic culture. If our culture were replaced by mexico's Bush would have no problem with that.

THE "NEW AMERICAN"

We are now one of the largest Spanish-speaking nations in the world. We're a major source of Latin music, journalism and culture.

Just go to Miami, or San Antonio, Los Angeles, Chicago or West New York, New Jersey ... and close your eyes and listen. You could just as easily be in Santo Domingo or Santiago, or San Miguel de Allende.

For years our nation has debated this change -- some have praised it and others have resented it. By nominating me, my party has made a choice to welcome the new America.

As I speak, we are celebrating the success of democracy in Mexico.

George Bush from a campaign speech in Miami, August 2000.

You can read the speech here.

Here is an excerpt of a good critique of that speech:

In equating our intimate historic bonds to our mother country and to Canada with our ties to Mexico, W. shows a staggering ignorance of the civilizational facts of life. The reason we are so close to Britain and Canada is that we share with them a common historical culture, language, literature, and legal system, as well as similar standards of behavior, expectations of public officials, and so on.
