Good question. When Colin Powell suggested that "You broke it---you bought it", I remember the chorus shouting him down.
But I believe he was correct.
We could have got rid of the Madhi Army on a number of occasions, many were stupid to think that they could work with it and some even thought the Madhi Army was a good thing, because it meant US troops didn't have to patrol large portions of Sadr City, Najaf, etc.
They were wrong.
