New York State is losing more residents than any other state in the country, according to U.S. Census Bureau statistics released early today.
Based on surveys taken between 2000 and 2004, the figures show that New York replaced California as the net migration outflow leader, with an average of 182,886 people leaving a year, nearly double California's average for the same period.
California led the nation between 1990 and 2000.
The findings track the state-to-state movement in America.
They do not include international immigration numbers.
The New York City metropolitan region - which includes Long Island and parts of New Jersey and Pennsylvania - also leads the country in migration outflow, with an average of 211,014 leaving a year.
The number is higher than the state figure because many of those leaving the metropolitan region resettle in other areas of New York.
Despite the tremendous outflow, the overall city population, at 8.2 million, is growing due to increases in international immigration and a birthrate that is greater than the death rate.
"There are three reasons people are leaving: taxes, taxes, and taxes," a Republican candidate for governor, John Faso, said.
His recommended solution: "Cut taxes, reduce spending, put the state budget on a diet."
Another Republican candidate, William Weld, also stressed the need to cut taxes.
"For New York to retain its young people and talented work force, it must corral and bridle New York's government spending, cut taxes, and reduce imposed business costs such as health care and worker's compensation,"...
These are simple changes that will provide the key to keeping our seed corn: good jobs at good wages."

It's complicated, one maybe two. IIRC, in NY there's one Representative for every 650,000.
MA is actually higher, using per population. It is a smaller state, so the numbers are smaller, but the percentage of people leaving is actually higher. MA had negative numbers in the census for the last sever years, over the year prior.
It more than just taxes in MA however, it is also the liberal indoctrination centers they call public schools, and the culture in most of the cities. Very hostile environment, and people a fleeing to more wholesome environments.
They should cut taxes, increase spending, and say the resulting deficit is not much larger than the previous in terms of percent of population, GDP, whatever. No one cares anyway.
It seems like the only ones who do care are leaving... They care about themselves. I have chosen to stay and fight.. for 6 more years anyway till my youngest graduates from High School.
If things are still as bad or should I say worse, I will leave. I really think it will take a colossal implosion before anything happens, we are on the right track for that right now.

You are kiddng!! I am from NC and know that the best pizza or slice of pie by my friends from Long Island is the best.
The Hudson Valley is about as beautiful as it gets in this country. Too bad it's so damned expensive.
I'd say his spine, but he doesn't have one.

I thought they just came down here to tell us how everything we do is wrong!

They do that in Florida too? I am so glad I no longer go to Myrtle Beach as part of my job. I used to get so disgusted listening to the transplants tell us how wonderful things were back up North. Well, why did you move South, fool?
No, New Yorkers and Californians are off to spread the cancer of socialism to wherever it is they're moving.
The cycle often is to build government owned housing for the servants. The government will grant to itself special zoning that working people can never get ( height, mass, etc. )
Then the servants will out vote the middle classes for more spending projects and "free stuff." Of course, nothing is really free, so the government will raise the tax rates.
The middle classes then leave, again.
I believe Massachussetts is up there on that list also. Seems the Soviets might have had a reason for the Berlin wall.
Mass is number 2...reportedly.
Some say that on a percentage basis, Mass should be number 1 in population loses.
In any event, both should lose congressional seats and lose another vote for President.
And I swear they are all moving to FL! It's estimated that 1000 people per day move here.
For Immediate Release: 4/20/2006
BELLEVUE, WA The Census Bureau has reported what amounts to a domestic migration from three large cities in three key states, and the Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) blames much of this population flight on repressive gun laws.
The Associated Press reported Thursday that, according to the Census Bureau, states losing the most people are New York, California and Illinois.
This is no mystery, said SAF founder Alan Gottlieb. Those states are infamous for their anti-gun attitudes. Countless times have we heard from people who have moved from those states because they wanted to escape the Draconian gun laws.
The Census Bureau reports that New York City, Chicago and Los Angeles lost the most residents between 2000 and 2004, Gottlieb continued. Anti-gun politicians and their restrictive gun laws have made it virtually impossible for average law-abiding citizens to get a concealed pistol license in Los Angeles or New York City. In Chicago, you cant own an unregistered handgun, and they no longer register handguns.
Americans prefer to live where they can enjoy freedom and liberty, rather than depend upon an oppressive, disinterested municipal bureaucracy for their safety, he said. ...
Same thing happening here in Nevada. We call it "Californication".
