There is a direct correlation between Bush's poll numbers and the price of gasoline Therein lies Bush's problem. To voters, "The Economy" = Gas Prices. That's it. I live in a blue state, and after Iraq, the number one thing people at my workplace bash Bush over is gas prices. Every day, nonstop.People like the Prez who have lived most of their lives behind the walls of privilege have no idea what we working stiffs face every day with gas prices, illegals in our cities, or anything else that threatens our daily way of life.

I agree with you and others, that gas prices and other issues important to conservatives is driving this low approval rating. However, I don't think it will be reflected near as much when voting in elections.
