There is an echo-chamber effect here where disturbed people are feeding and amplifying each others rage because it brings them psychic rewards to do so. It is all about their feelings, and to keep the feelings going they are going more and more off the deep end.

Its an understandable obsession, to a degree. People do genuinely suffer emotionally sometimes, and they need to find something to repair their feelings.

Conservatives in this condition typically find God instead.
