The Left, Online and Outraged
The Washington Post ^ | Saturday, April 15, 2006 | David Finkel

Posted on 04/14/2006 11:15:21 PM PDT by Plutarch

In the angry life of Maryscott O'Connor, the rage begins as soon as she opens her eyes and realizes that her president is still George W. Bush... Out there, awaiting her building fury: the Angry Left, where O'Connor's reputation is as one of the angriest of all. "One long, sustained scream" is how she describes the writing she does for various Web logs...

---------------snip----------------------

What's notable about this isn't only the level of anger but the direction from which it is coming. Not that long ago, it was the right that was angry and the left that was, at least comparatively, polite. But after years of being the targets of inflammatory rhetoric, not only from fringe groups but also from such mainstream conservative politicians as Newt Gingrich, the left has gone on the attack. And with Republicans in control of Washington, they have much more to be angry about.

"Powerlessness" is O'Connor's explanation. "This is born of powerlessness..."

WP should do a story about the Blog that chronicles the foibles of the Left on a regular basis---DUmmie FUnnies.

Actually, I think Southack came closest to nailing it.

Think back to how we despised Clinton. But there was a difference in our "anger". For the most part we spoke out about what we were FOR. And we had the comfort of knowing most Americans agreed with us (they were just charmed by Clinton---not the left.)

The left's politicians, to their everlasting frustration, can't publicly state what they stand for. They end up tying themselves into pretzels. For example, on gay marriage they hit on the brilliant response that "the states should decide". But that's nonsensical in light of their love for Roe v. Wade*. Imagine how frustrating it would be to always have to cloak your political beliefs---because, deep down, you know they're unacceptible to the general population. I guess it would drive me crazy too.

*Have you ever noticed the first part of Roe v. Wade....spells ROVE?!

Yeah. I found that to be AMAZING. You have a REPORTER on the WP who admits that he NEVER read a blog before. What cave is he living in? That's like somebody being from Hawaii who claims he never saw the ocean before.

"The left should be angry - most Americans are on to them and not buying their crap."

Exactly!!

But .. these two sentences tell you everything:

"But after years of being the targets of inflammatory rhetoric, not only from fringe groups but also from such mainstream conservative politicians as Newt Gingrich, the left has gone on the attack. And with Republicans in control of Washington, they have much more to be angry about."

Those two sentences say IT'S OUR FAULT THEY'RE ANGRY.

Geeeeee .. isn't that something like the terrorists are angry because of us too ..??

These "angry" liberals are emotionally very ill.

Newt turned on himself, committed political suicide and gave up his smaller goverment agenda. I recall Newt telling us that he saw the Federal Budget increasing every year for the next 50 years. Then (and now) he succumbs to megalomania, thinks of running for President. To pave his way, he pushed the ethanol requirement on some energy bill to bribe Iowa farmers to support him in the Iowa causus. It cost the rest of us billions and billions of dollars for his crash on takeoff Presidential campaign.

Newt's great . . . . out of power. Keep him out their pushing ideas, but keep him out of power.

The Washington Post writer had never been to a Blog before he decided to write this piece! How the hell would he know what was going on?

And yet he is EMPLOYED by a major newspaper. Would an auto shop hire someone who admitted he never changed a tire before? I mean I find this admission of never having read a Blog before to be AMAZING! How much do you want to bet that the writer's SOLE qualification to write for the Post is that he is a Liberal?

p.s. This also shows the utter LACK of curiousity by this reporter. Often, when I am researching things online via Google, I get Blogs in the search results.

Don't worry.

They were just as mad when W's far more moderate dad was President.

I posted a comment (#4) on her blog. It will be interesting to see how long it lasts. D

The rage that brings satisfaction is something else. Rage evokes applause, and she seems to live for that. There is an echo-chamber effect here where disturbed people are feeding and amplifying each others rage because it brings them psychic rewards to do so. It is all about their feelings, and to keep the feelings going they are going more and more off the deep end.

Interesting analysis. Perhaps this is the difference in personality of an individualist and a marxist/socialist. The individualist looks inward to know what is right. The socialist turns to the group. Socialists are 'confirmed' in their beliefs by what the group 'thinks'.

I'm sure that'll be toast, soon. It is far too rational for her/them to face.

Unintentionally hilarious, from the picture to her wine & cigarettes habit to the extremely limited vocabulary of this harpy and her correspondents (Shannika?!?!?).

Bush. Lied. [expletive] [expletive]

Sigh....anyone want to meet Maryscott for a cocktail after work? Anyone?

It's worse than that, the premise of the story was that there are now leftwing blogs that are full of righteous indignation. If he'd never read a blog, how would he know that? In other words, conclusion first, research second.

Maybe he'll be like Cindy Sheehan's son and be as much unlike her as he possibly can.
