I don't dislike Tancredo, but he isn't presidential material and although you may wish he will win the presidency, it's just that, imo. A wish.

Can you imagine the commercial the left will make from when Tancredo suggested we nuke Mecca or some such nonsense? I'll stand by my statement. He doesn't stand a chance.

So with that said, I'll throw my support to whomever does stand an actual chance of doing something I can see Republicans haven't quite gotten the grasp of yet. Actually winning elections.

To put it in context.....

Talk show host Pat Campbell (search) asked the Littleton Republican how the country should respond if terrorists struck several U.S. cities with nuclear weapons.

"Well, what if you said something like — if this happens in the United States, and we determine that it is the result of extremist, fundamentalist Muslims, you know, you could take out their holy sites," Tancredo answered.

"You're talking about bombing Mecca," Campbell said.

"Yeah," Tancredo responded.

The congressman later said he was "just throwing out some ideas" and that an "ultimate threat" might have to be met with an "ultimate response."

Works for me.

Tancredo suggested the 'Nuke Mecca' strategy as a possible response to another large-scale Islamic terrorist attack on US soil.

I'm sure you're well aware of the context...

This is standard RNC boilerplate.

You seem to be putting the cart before the horse. What is important is standing for solidly conservative principles and thereby pulling the nation back from the brink - compare Reagan's first 4 to Carter's 4. Winning elections is irrelevant if you surrender on the major issues of the day to win them.
