"There are actually stores - hardware, clothing, food, toys, appliances"
I would be interested to know the brands.
Of course, food comes from the USA, but clothing?
To my knowledge, there are no longer any mass production clothing factories left in the US.
The major US brands of appliances and hardware are also sold in Walmart.

Bwahhaaahaa. You bash an American enterprise and then use PBS as a source? Are you sure you wouldn't be more comfortable at DU?

'food comes from the USA'
Hardly. Fruit & vegetables come from Central and South America. Even McDonalds imports it meat for their junk burgers.

"Sam was an advocate of importing. It was his vision," said a retired senior executive, who was a buyer in Wal-Mart's Hong Kong office in the 1980s, "Our first office was in Hong Kong, then Taiwan. Korea soon after. We'd visit factories, see how they store goods. You would look at every step of the process very carefully."

Yes, of course we import food, but I do not know of any American producers that are not able to sell all that they can grow or raise.

Yes, I know...It is a sad fact of life.
Times change.
As much as I love mom and pop stores, I cant throw a temper tantrum and demand my buggy whip be made in the USA.

Thanks for the links to American made shops.
I may try some of them, but they are all small shops that can not produce high quantities.
One might also question what is required to say "Made in USA".

I believe that the Jewish term is 'Shoah'. "Holocaust" was in general usage before the time of the Nazi's.

AMEN.
Redwings= fifty percent more expensive than crap and last four times longer. Plus you can often resole them, saving even more. As a Audio Visual tech I needed something that looks corporate but handled 9 hour days and Redwing delivered.
