"57% of Mexicans in [a] Zogby poll believed that they should have the right to cross the border freely and without U.S. permission."

"In a recent Pew poll, 40% of all Mexicans expressed a desire to immigrate to the U.S."

"In some respects, our situation is worse than France's. The United States has some 8-12 million illegal aliens—a population of unlawful residents larger than that of any other country in the Western world—not France's 4-7 million mostly Arab-French citizens. Ten thousand Muslim youths rioted outside Paris; but there are nearly 15,000 illegal-alien felons from Mexico in the California penal system alone, incarcerated at a cost of almost a half billion dollars a year. Portions of the Arizona and California borders have devolved into a Wild West—a no-man's-land of drug smuggling, shoot-outs, environmental desecration, and random death. Mexico responds by publishing comic books with safety tips about crossing the border, so that its departing citizens can more safely violate U.S. immigration laws. Meanwhile, Hispanic groups in America complain that increased border surveillance near San Diego has cruelly diverted human traffic into the desert

We are sending a deadly message for our country to the world, we don't have secure borders and we don't enforce our laws.

That's a message sent to the world for all to see by allowing the stupid demonstrations by a gross number of illegals.

It's also worrying that certain unions in the United States, such as the UAW, behave like French unions.

They saw a thin scab of French hypocrisy scraped off—revealing a deep wound of invidious religious and racial separatism festering in Muslim ghettoes.

I really love the way VDH writes

MONEY QUOTE (and a chilling thought): "America could easily end up like France"

The wife and I were just wondering last night how long it will be before these "protests" turn violent. Somehow, I just don't think the average red blooded, 4 wheel drive owning, gun toting, American red neck is going to tollerate his his pickup truck or his neighborhood burning after being lit by an illegal aliens match. Tennessee ain't France. Just sayin'......

Here is another money quote:

Large numbers believe that the southwest U.S. belongs to them, yet they don't want to stay in their own country. If Mexico were to absorb the American Southwest, would Mexicans still wish to emigrate there?

Two comments:

(1) The Beurs of the Paris banlieu are NOT like the Mexicans and Hispanic in American slums in one key way. They all speak French. All of them born in France are educated in France. And they all speak French. The article suggests that the lack of assimiliation in France and America are the same, partly because of language barrier. The language barrier does not exist in France to any significant degree. Beurs do have an accent, and pretty distinctive speech. But in this regard they are like American blacks and not at all like the American Hispanics. American blacks and French Arabs all speak English and French, respectively.

Also, most of the ghetto-dwelling Hispanics in America are recent arrivals. There are SOME recent arrivals in France, but most of the Arabs are native born and French speaking, not immigrants.

(2) French disturbances involve property damage but no killing. That's the French way.
American riots involve property damage and a lot of killing. That's the American way. If America explodes "like France", it will not be like France. Two weeks of riots in America will not leave just one person accidentally killed. It will leave hundreds dead.

It's possible since we are acting like France.

I believe we are trying to overly finesse this problem. We should secure the borders before we do anything else. And I do mean secure.
