The Democrats are taking advantage of the division in the GOP over this issue.

How on earth do the Rats get by unscathed on this? If our party would just stand by the rule of law, they could have butchered the libs on this one.

A slap in the face of those who work here legally and those trying to get in legally.

Mull this!

Immigration reform is separate from border security reform. Illegal aliens want to confuse that. So are the Democrats and RINOs. They are invaders not immigrants. These politicians are responding to the demands of illegal foreign nationals not American citizens.

Border security requires addressing two things:
1. Enforcement on the border itself.
2. A rational (as Arlen Spectre put it) means of dealing with the 11 - 20 million illegal aliens here already.

I agree with those who say it is not rational to deal with illegal aliens by "rounding them up." It is not rational economically, socially or politically. What is rational and would be highly effective is to enforce the laws we have on American employers who hire illegal foreign nationals. H.R. 4437, while not perfect, has some very good provisions for doing just that. None of the Senate bills do.

Immigration reform should be considered separately from border security reform. Both in public discussion and in legislative process. It should also be considered secondarily to border security reform.

"It remains our intent to produce a strong border security bill that will not make unlawful presence in the United States a felony."

Ha ha ha. Let's make it strong but not a felony. Yeah, how about calling an unlawful act a right. I call BS on the whimpy GOP.

The democrats put forth the amendment to HR 4437 of a "felony" to make the bill a poison pill to the republicans. The "felony" provision in the house bill, as I understand it, will be removed in conference.

The republicans need to drive this fact home that the democrats are behind this and it was their plan.

I don't understand WHY you won't gather even bigger counter demonstartions PRO immigration reform law?
If americans against invaders then why not to show it to them and legislature?

The Year 2006 is an election year. After watching all the Democrats over the past few days talk of granting rights to illegal aliens I got a brainstorm of an idea: put some illegals on the ballot against them.

We could do it in New York against Senator Hillary Clinton and in San Francisco against Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi. Since no Republican will ever carry either place we could put them on the Republican ticket.

What would the Dems say against this? That the people they're against are illegal? They want "rights" for these people. Isn't one right the ability to run for office? If the left raises a big stink, we'll just accuse them of racist, sexist, homophobia. We'll have our candidate recount tales of his family wandering the desert bare foot through cacti.

I'd really love to see what the Dems would say. Our candidate could even promise to work for half the salary of a Congressman (dare I say, do the work for a wage no American would accept?) It's okay though - he'll never see the money drained away in income taxes (if Congress even pays them.) He'd be an illegal.

I can even tell you how to answer tough questions:

#1 What do you think of the war? I think it's good. Who cares if a bunch of Americans die, we won't be taken away for the fighting: we're not citizens.

#2 What do you think of Abortion? My Catholic upbringing says that I need to be against it. It's okay though - if I ever need one I'll go home to Mexico (where it's legal) for the weekend.

#3 What do you think of gun control? I don't care about it. I'm not a citizen, I'll carry a gun if I want too.

So there you have it. I urge all Americans living near these areas to go in and vote for our illegal candidate. So what if you'd break the law to do it? We never really liked those laws anyway.

Republicans will lose badly in 2006. It's inevitable. Bush has the lowest ratings ever. Republicans can't even muster more than 50% support of Republican voters! What we need is REAL leadership and real decisions need to be made! We can't afford any more of this indecision. This selling off of the country needs to stop immediately. Laws need to be respected.

I'm still in shock that so many Republicans were willing to go along with that thoroughly noxious, reprehensible Senate 'compromise' last Thursday. It's just so maddening. This invasion has been going on for year after year. And when our politicians finally get around to confronting the issue, they cave! They care more about alien criminals than our own border security.

Here I've been doing all I can (voting and contributing and beyond), for years trying to preserve this country against the twin enemies of leftist culture on one end, and the Islamic terror scum on the other... yet now I find people in my own Party ready to hand over the country. Good grief, why even bother fighting Al-Qaeda anymore? What's the damned use? There's not even going to be a country here worth fighting for. Just another third-world, socialist-leaning cesspool. It's halfway there already.

This is really the last stand. If something isn't done immediately (fences, walls, deportations, whatever), America is no more. And I'm going to curse the sell-out contingent of Republicans to my dying breath. I expect such treachery from the Dems, not 'my' guys. Damn, I could just chew nails right now!

Shamnesty will only embolden the criminals...the trickle became the river the river became the flood the flood will become a tsunami...

And what is going to come across the border now is America's worst nightmare and the death knell of the Republic...

Freedom will be traded for the safety that will never be delivered in the end it will be exactly as the extra American government wants it to be....

The American experiment in letting serfs rule themselves will be over....yet it will be the uber classes that will have opened us up to defeat and no one dare stop them...first they must destroy the middle class conservatives...

While giving them laws to fight the Islamic terrorism (one fist encouraged)...and creating the bureaucracy to do so....the other fist lets millions of illegal invaders across the border to cause the chaos they need to take the rest of our freedom....

No one dare demand they be kicked out or declare them felons

Remarkable...war on terror....wide open borders...millions of invaders....

The founding fathers would be jailed and executed for their thoughts on this matter...their assets seized..

The once free republic would at the very least banish them and their thoughts..on government and freedom...

imo

I'm a veteran who put my life on the line to protect and defend this nation from all enemies, foreign and domestic. Had I known that our elected (non) representatives would take us to a point that they are willing to throw open the gates of this nation and invite invaders to peacefully walk in, ignore our national sovereignty, break our laws and be treated by the political aristocracy as saviors come to rescue us from the homogenous nation we used to be, I wouldn't have bothered enlisting.

Nor, I suspect, would my brother, sister, father grandfathers, great-grandfathers, etc. We are being betrayed by people WE elected to represent US, the taxpaying voters who sent them to Congress to enforce OUR will and OUR laws, NOT that of an invading army of law breakers. They are betraying us in spirit, in reality, and using the money WE pay in taxes to buy the allegiance and potential voting power of this illegal invading army. WE put these politicians where they are today and they "serve" at OUR pleasure!! This is a government of, by and for the people, NOT a pandering appeasement organization that welcomes invaders with open arms!!

There is NO acceptable solution except:
1. CLOSE the border
2. NO amnesty
3. NO slap on the wrist misdemeanor punishments
4. NO guest worker programs
5. NO offers of citizenship/legal status
6. Severe penalties for employers who hire them (including having their businesses seized from them)

Anything that is LESS than that is a show-stopper. This issue threatens to split this country apart and it is only because we have a class of gutless, spineless, unethical, anti-American sellouts in Washington deciding against what the majority of Americans want. No spinning by ANY polling group has been able to make the opposition to immigration reform by Americans look like anything other than what it is - a strong, forceful position that most Americans share.

Politicians on both sides of the aisle are shredding the value of American citizenship and willing to sell it for a little as $2,000. That, in itself, is a disgrace!! But they are selling American citizenship to people who have no desire to come here and become part of us, they want to sell it to people whose sole purpose is to conquer the US and turn the nation they "risked their lives to reach" into a newer version of the countries they couldn't wait to leave. THAT's NOT America and it isn't what this nation is about. Our political elites are sacrificing America's future for a small gain today.

This is despicable, cowardly and wrong. If they are so enamored of criminals, why not allow every felon in prison the opportunity to buy their way out of prison by paying a $2,000 fine and a promise not to rape, murder, rob, bludgeon, whatever, again? This, in essence, is what the McCain, Kennedy, Martinez (traitors) are proposing in their amnesty bill.

If this is NOT what you want, you better start speaking up. Otherwise, you better start brushing up on your Spanish-speaking skills, because that's next.
