< 2 years in country - How many of them and how will we get them out of the country?

>2 and < 5 years how many, what border do they go to, how about OTMs (other than Mexicans)?

Is there still a fine and payment of back taxes?

I want to see the whole bill.

Remember the promise that was part of the final push by the White House to win support for the massive intelligence-overhaul bill, which was stripped of several key immigration reforms so it would pass more easily? Were we not promised border security would be taken care of separately in 2006?

So why is any discussion in Washington these days which address border security now lumped in with how to best to manage social programs for illegal immigrants? Why has the security reform measures for the border as recommended by the 9-11 commission now been changed to "Comprehensive Immigration Reform" which is a buzz word for amnesty with no teeth at the borders, the exact opposite ?

Comprehensive is defined as; Including much; comprising many things; having a wide scope or a full view. While "Comprehensive Immigration Reform" sounds idealist, its not what was promised, and is not workable until we first take control of our wide open borders.

How about a reform comprising of just one thing --border security as promised and lets take care of charity to the third world and guest workers for more business profits after we first secure our border as outlined by lessons learned from 9-11?

News is not good. Compromise in the senate basically says:
* those hear less than two years must leave immeidately. If they don't and get caught, it is ONLY a misdeamor. They have to get caught 3 times to be expelled. The new law goes downhill from here....it's beyond understanding. Most of the uninformed masses will just think this is great. The rest of us will know that today is a dark day for our sovereignty. I pray an outcry from America might change this but I'm not optimistic.

How are they going to document the length of the illegal stay in the US?

So, this explains why my husband is downstairs yelling at the TV.

The illegals get a reward for being here illegally, and we the taxpayers get to keep paying for their schooling and heathcare>

Good thinking Congress!!

So, the 12 Million formerly illegal aliens will now become legal, and therefore subject to minimum wage, FICA, etc, and therefore, priced out of the market. They will thus become de-facto "americans" as in "just doing the jobs Americans won't do." Thus, we will now need 12 Million more to do those jobs "Americans plus 12 Million new "americans" still won't do"!!!

I get it!

What they don't address is the fact that only about 20% of the illegals will comply. The rest will ignore this and NOTHING HAS CHANGED! They have NO provisions for punishing those in the 80% group.

Sell out of America PING

"I live in a small farm town in Nelson County, Virginia, and will retire from the Virginia Army National Guard in April 2006, after 22 years. I have spent almost one half of my adult life preparing myself and my soldiers for a time, such as now, that our country might successfully face our enemies, foreign and domestic.

Looking at your webpage this morning and seeing the pictures of the high school students raising a Mexican national flag over an upside down American flag saddened me terribly, insofar as there are American soldiers, Marines, sailors, and airmen currently putting their lives in danger in order to provide these "citizens" the comfort of knowing that their protests will not result in being lined up against a wall and executed for their behavior, as they might in other countries around the world.

What would be interesting to know is if these young men and women are enjoying their educations on the back of the American taxpayer at a public school, while denigrating the country that provides these benefits to them, and so blatantly desecrating the flag that serves as a beacon to draw them to America in the first place."

“The American people are counting on us to secure our borders and restore the rule of law to our immigration system. The Senate Judiciary Committee today let the American people down by passing out a blanket amnesty bill. We've been down this path several times before, and it proved a failure.
“There was a real opportunity to take the steps necessary to fix our failed immigration enforcement system and while progress was made, we did not get there. The proper approach is to first fix the enforcement system and then to undertake a national discussion about immigration, considering how to justly handle those here illegally and what rules should govern future immigration levels. We also have not effectively dealt with the national security issues.

“I voted against the committee passed legislation because it rewards illegal behavior, will be considered amnesty by the people and will not restore respect for law. Fortunately, the House of Representatives has passed a solid bill, and there will be an opportunity to improve the Senate version in the days to come.”

http://tancredo.house.gov/irc/welcome.htm

"In the first place we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the man's becoming in very fact an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag, and this excludes the red flag, which symbolizes all wars against liberty and civilization, just as much as it excludes any foreign flag of a nation to which we are hostile...We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

Nifty-keeno. I especially love this part:

"In general, it would require illegal immigrants who have been in the United States between two years and five years to return to their home country briefly, then re-enter as temporary workers. They could then begin a process of seeking citizenship."

Illegal immigrants here longer than five years would not be required to return home; those in the country less than two years would be required to leave without assurances of returning, and take their place in line with others seeking entry papers.

And how exactly do these big brains figure they're going to be able to tell how long any of these illegal aliens have been on U.S. soil, seeing as they slipped in under the wire in the dead of night?

The whole thing is a frickin' sham. There is an obvious pattern established here:

1) Ignore the borders.

2) Allow millions to invade with impunity.

3) Let simmer for twenty years.

4) Give amnesty to the illegal invaders.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

It's like the demagogues in DC want another civil war.

These people were willing to break the law to get here. what makes anyoe think they'll just go peacefully??? All they have to do now is keep staying, inasmuch as we can't even ask them if they're illegal, then in 2012, we'll just go through all this again. This is no more than a pill for the public.
