With all due respect I don't think it will hurt us, it will more than likely help us. Rahm Emanuel and the DCCC were going to portray Delay as the new Newt, the face of the "corrupt" Repub party, and it might have worked. Delay's falling on a sword is a selfless noble act that will only help us retain our majority. I admire him, I respect him and I wish him well.

"
DeLay's 14 minute taped statement will air this morning."Rep. Tom DeLay's Statement (mp3 format, 3.06 MB) is available online now.
As a resident of Rep. DeLay's district, I am reassured by his statement. He is resigning for the right reasons, and I'm confident he will continue to be a very active force in conservative politics on the national scene.
God bless you, Rep. DeLay, and thank you for your service to the residents of TX-22 in the U.S. House and to the U.S.A.

"Tom DeLay's decision to leave Congress is just the latest piece of evidence that the Republican Party is a party in disarray, a party out of ideas and out of energy," said Bill Burton, a spokesman for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
This is a predictable response from the left and the NE MSM (Nearly Extinct Main Stream Media) will parrot this and similar "talking points" for weeks to come.
However, I will bet you a dollar to a doughnut that when Ronnie Earle's case against DeLay falls flat and is thrown out or DeLay is acquitted, there won't be a peep from the MSM or the left. And, when DeLay goes after Ronnie Earle and gets his partisan leftist butt busted out of office, we won't hear a word about it from the NE MSM or the left.

I hope you don't think I was being "snobbish." I generally check sign-up dates if I don't recognize the screen name. My welcome was sincere.

I get SO SICK of discounting peoples opinion based upon when they signed up!!!
I noted his sign-up date after reading
this post in addition to the one on this thread. Together, they smell like like a troll.

First, I hope this is a bogus story.
Second, if true, he bloody well could have done this before the primaries!

The clintons take FBI files into their possession, conveniently lose Rose Firm Law Records, rape and sexually assault women, steal china from Air Force One, sell technology to China - while accepting political campaign contributions, show complete incompetence in foreign affairs, that result in the attacks of 9/11,and yet they are beloved by their fellow democrats? And are beloved by the MSM too! Disgusting....

I did, too. I'm more interested in what Freepers think about it than I am in what the ap has to say.

Neither does Sen. Ted Kennedy, who . . . well, we all know what he did.

Delay's antics may very well lead to a rat winning the district. He should have stepped down from the primary. The county parties of Harris and Fort Bend both tried to cut the legs off the two best republican challenger to Delay, Campbell and Stockman. I remember all th emailers I got the weeks before th primary. Now they are all they got to keep a well funded and known rat (Lampson) out of office.

as much as i hate to see him go, he still part of what's wrong with this country. career politicians. if we had term limits, we might lose those like delay, but we'd also be rid of those like kerry, teddy, pelosi.. etc. the country would run alot smoother if we didn't have people sitting for 20-40 years trying over and over to force the same bills into law that shouldn't be there in the first place.

At least there is talk of the Sugar Land mayor entering the fray. He is a young and charismatic guy, and may have more going for him than Campbell (or even DeLay).

My fear is that there will be a lot of republicans and only one Demo. the Republicans cut each other to pieces and let the rat squeek in.

He resigned because he can read the tea leaves that the next term of the house will very likely be a under a Democrat majority and even if he won he would be personally humiliated and may even go the way of Duke Cunningham where he would lose his pension for a trumped up felony charge.
Because of GWB's amnesty, his failure to secure our borders, his signing of the McCain-Feingold CFR bill, his largess of $15 billion for AIDS in Africa, his base will take a walk come November and the result will be a Democrat majority in January.

It is much to early in this event to speculate with any accuracy what is going to happen. I feel sure that the DeLay group is aware of the options available to the State under the Texas Election Code which may include a special election or the selection of a replacement candidate by the State Party and maybe others. The district is basically Republican and if the candidate emerges with good credentials, appeal, etc. I suspect that the democrats won't be successful in taking the seat.
