McKinney incident referred to U.S. Attorney's Office
The Associated Press - ATLANTA
Capitol Hill police have referred a scuffle between one of their officers and U.S. Rep. Cynthia McKinney to the U.S. Attorney's Office in Washington, D.C., a spokesman for the office said Monday.
"We are working with Capitol Hill police to fully understand and appreciate the incident," principal assistant U.S. Attorney Channing Phillips told The Associated Press in a telephone interview. "Pending review, it is inappropriate for us to comment any further at this time."
Phillips would not say whether a warrant was issued for McKinney's arrest.
McKinney spokesman Coz Carson on Monday also acknowledged the investigation.
"We're aware that the wheels are turning in Washington," Carson said. "We have no control over what they decide to do. We will make the appropriate statement and take the appropriate action once we know where they're going."
At a press conference Monday morning, black clergy and lawmakers came the defense of the firebrand congresswoman. McKinney smiled as her supporters heaped praise on her leadership and her new look _ her trademark cornrows replaced earlier this year by a curly brown afro.

I'm sick of this. Berger. Rockefeller. They all skate.
Well, that's the end of that.
She is definately going for the 'Al Sharpton' look.
Before this weekend, if someone had shown me that photo and said that this is a U.S Representative, I would have never believed them.
Maybe that's why the cop had a hard time "recognizing" her.
or is it the 'Don King' look?
The officer in question wanted to press charges
IMO .. the top law enforcement people are just afraid of members of congress
I'd like to know why they can't go through medal detectors like the rest of us average joe's
I saw her press conference last Friday and thought I'd stumbled across a SNL skit.
LOL! ping post #6
And since Cynthia keeps "forgetting" her pin, (deliberately to provoke this kind of incident, I'm positive), there is all the more reason to require them ALL to go through metal detectors.
I'm hoping this is good news only because this isn't the first time Cindy has done this...maybe this time they plan on doing something.....at least, that's what I'm hoping....crossing fingers..
I don't know, I just think that government (except the military)...is made up of a bunch of scaredy-cats!!
They don't want to have to take on the "racial aspects"..and the resulting circus that accompanies it.
My gosh, look at what has already happened?? The one last week with Belafonte and Glover, and now today---when she didn't even talk about this...
OH, BUT, all of a sudden a bunch of Georgia black politicians come out with some story about being stuck in a balconey during the viewing of Coretta Scott King...but they didn't say anything out of "respect"???
PUH-llllllleeeze, we all saw what that place was like then...the audience was ALL black...sheesh.
Anyway...I just sense FEAR from the Capitol Police, and from anyone else.
BTW...I think that is the TACTIC that has been perfected for YEARS by Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton..to make such a stink about anything even remotely racial...and make it so over the top---that people ARE reluctant to do the right thing!!
BTW...I think the DEMS are doing the same thing right now about the immigration thing to a certain extent, by crying racist to the groups that are wanting any thing other than amnesty.
She wants to be dressed for the situation!
I've missed both of her press conferences, but maybe that's just as well. Because anything I would have posted listening to her would have gotten me banned.
I can't believe they don't make all members walk thru metal detectors with nut cases like her in office. She's unstable enough to do most anything.
See what happens when you stick your finger in the outlet!!!
"If she were a white republican it would have been splattered all over by now, IMHO."
My guess is if the tape helped her case it would be all over the news.
There's an easy solution to this.
Make EVERYONE go thru the metal detector!
However, since Congress appropriates the funds for the Capitol Police, I don't see this happening any time soon.
