McKinney incident referred to U.S. Attorney's Office

The Associated Press - ATLANTA

Capitol Hill police have referred a scuffle between one of their officers and U.S. Rep. Cynthia McKinney to the U.S. Attorney's Office in Washington, D.C., a spokesman for the office said Monday.

"We are working with Capitol Hill police to fully understand and appreciate the incident," principal assistant U.S. Attorney Channing Phillips told The Associated Press in a telephone interview. "Pending review, it is inappropriate for us to comment any further at this time."

Phillips would not say whether a warrant was issued for McKinney's arrest.

McKinney spokesman Coz Carson on Monday also acknowledged the investigation.

"We're aware that the wheels are turning in Washington," Carson said. "We have no control over what they decide to do. We will make the appropriate statement and take the appropriate action once we know where they're going."

At a press conference Monday morning, black clergy and lawmakers came the defense of the firebrand congresswoman. McKinney smiled as her supporters heaped praise on her leadership and her new look _ her trademark cornrows replaced earlier this year by a curly brown afro.

Exactly the opposite. This is how a charge against a sitting member of Congress must progress.

couple of things. Because this McKinney thing has me intrigued for a couple of reasons. One requires a quick don of a tin foil hat. But I'm not normally nuts so give me some leeway for a moment.

First, this woman's history is extensive for this sort of thing. Just when does it become too much? It's not like she couldn't just wear the pin like everyone else yet for years she's refused to do so and for years she's been driving everyone batty who has to deal with her?

I think that McKinney's grandstanding press conferences are clear indication that she is very concerned. Sure she got some other congress critter to intervene but it's my sense it didn't work.

Now why do the capitol cops have to go to the DA or any special something for a sitting member of congress? How would it be handled if I hit a capitol cop with a cell phone?

At the very least this woman should be censored by the house, at the very least. Yet I don't sense any major outrage across the blogosphere.

Finally, I've read that McKinney's campaign and indeed her own personal self have been enriched by foreign money. Especially foreign money from folks who wear tablecloths on their heads.

Going on my ingrained belief that everyone can be bought, what better way to inplant a destructive device in the hallowed halls of congress than to bring it in on the person of an actual congress critter?

During this past incident, this woman did not want to be stopped at that check point. She did not wear her pin, something she refuses to do...why? It is a way to get the authorities used to it, so to speak.

Second, the cop called her name. Still she refused to answer. Now likely the guy just called out "Miss" or something as I really believe this guy did not know who McKinney was no matter what McKinney and her paid peons attest to. But when a cop yells out "Miss" as I can well imagine, most heads tend to turn to see if they are being called. But McKinney ignored the call and plowed on through.

She ignored the verbal call so much that the cop had to go over and tap her shoulder to get her attention. Then she turned around and smacked him with her cell phone. Just not a normal reaction at a checkpoint like that, just not normal.

I worry about this incident because everyone has a price. Everyone. Some prices are a little higher than others but if I can get someone on my side who is able to exit and enter the halls of the U.S. congress with no security check whatsoever....?

Now I'm not saying good ole Cynthia was strapped up with a suicide bomb. I am saying that security is not something for peons. I am saying that for the right price even, perish the thought, one fraudulently elected to congress could be enticed to wreak havoc. Again, for the right price.

This is why I don't think this should be pushed under the rug. Ohoh, as I am typing, CNN announcing arrest warrant.

Well yeah, I don't think this is small beans here.

Given her history, can we add hate crimes charges?

Or is it impossible to be hateful if you're a minority??

Just ask yourself this: What would happen to Tom DeLay if it were him accused of assaulting a Capitol Police officer?

"There was an article recently with Congress, I believe it was Barney Franks in particular, debating over banning smoking on federal property. His stogies were exempt in the House due to, to paraphrase his sentiment, "this is our house and we should be able to have our own rules here".

The Supreme Court pulled the exact same "Ok for me, but not for thee" hypocrisy when ruling a county courthouse could not display the 10 Commandments (not the Alabama case, but a simple printed paper display in Kentucky), yet ruling in literally the same breath that the 10 Commandments display set in stone into the Supreme Court building was just dandy.

Why? Because the SOBs didn't want the spectacle of stonemasons chipping away at their precious building.

"Indict her, make her step down from any leadership post she may hold (assault is a felony after all) while the case winds its painfully slow way through the courts. If it is good enough for Tom DeLay, then certainly a democrat cannot object."

Absolutely perfect. Drag it into November to counter the DUmmies' caterwauling about the GOP.

IF there's one thing the Heartland will not abide, it is a criminal who strikes a cop who is merely performing his sworn duty. A criminal who should have known better.

Good afternoon.
"'trademark cornrows'?"

No. I believe that is Sheila Jackson Lee. I don't know what the hairstyle is called, but that isn't cornrows. Bo Derek wore corn rows.

After watching her press conference today I say she had staged the whole thing! From beginning to end!

She deliberately did this walking past the metal detectors until SOME cop would ask her to stop, knowing full well that at some point they would. Then she would hit him and then the whole drama starts. After all, she wasn't even in her usual building.

Perfect. Then she gets a FREE quarter million dollars worth of PR in her press conference / campagin speech today. She even lied to the press to tell them she was going to comment on "something new about the incident."

This is one disgusting Beeeetch! And she holds the whole country and its legal system hostage screaming police racism.

"She has our support unconditionally,"

These people are all nuts.

No wonder they keep re-electing McKinney.

Good afternoon.
"Sheila farms in circles?"

I'm not from Texas so I don't know how Sheila farms. It probably depends on how any illegal farmworkers she might have work.

It's true though, that she and Cynthia seem to talk in circles most of the time. Bo looked good in the hairstyle, eh.
