PETER LANCE: We had the Kennedy assassination, the Warren commission which even, the Warren commission has been subject to great doubt over the yeas. This is the greatest unsolved mass murder in American history. One year, two years later, as far as we know the only indictment is Zacharias Massiah, the alleged 20th hijacker, unless they have sealed indictments which we don't know about. And the idea that they don't pull out all the stops, that they don't fund, that this administration isn't' completely cooperating with this 9/11 commission. Even Tom Kean republican Governor of New Jersey chastised the White House in July for not fully cooperating. The fact that they are not pulling out all the stops is just indicative of how much they have to hide of this president's culpability and his father's culpability as well. And all I ask of you Richard, in your next book and I wish you'd done it in this book. My book is 576 pages and I fit both of the Bush bookends in somehow. I would just ask in your next book you be as virulent or meticulous if you will in your criticism of this administration as you are of the last one. ??
RICHARD MINITER: But this is not sound-byte radio as you said earlier. Let's remember why Saddam Hussein funds terrorists or did fund terrorist including Al Qaeda. Because they're cutouts in intelligence terms and what that means is that you can then deny the link to this group, you get to wage war and without having to take the consequences of that war back into your homeland and he of course funded groups that publicly hated him, composed of individuals at lower levels who openly despised him quite genuinely. That's why you employ cutouts. That's why certain extremist Trotsky's groups were actually funded by the Soviet's who if they knew would have been disgusted because they hated the Soviet Union. ?
PETER LANCE: There's a big difference between sending money and funding and running an operation and the clear implication that the neo-cons through Laurie and Wolfowitz is that, and now Cheney, they're holding on to the last straw because they had one piece of paper showing the Al Qaeda, 9/11, I mean the Saddam 9/11 connection would be on the front page of the Washington times. So they don't have anything left to justify the invasion which is going immensely badly at this point so they holding onto that and there's just no proof of it.
I think Lance had a definite point of view in 2003 and he has one now. He is far from being objective.
